Jason Kidd May Be Squeezing Pennies Out of a Team Near You

Jason KiddOK, sure, stacking Josh Howard, Jason Terry and former MVP Dirk Nowitzki around him was no more successful than surrounding him with Vince Carter and Richard Jefferson, but you know what they say: 18th time's the charm.

And it's in that spirit that Jason Kidd re-enters the NBA free agency market.

Dirk Nowitzki's Ex Claims She's Pregnant

There was little chance that the Dirk Nowitzki - Cristal Taylor saga was going to disappear quietly, even with the Mavericks eliminated from the playoffs. That small chance vanished, too, when Taylor held an interview with the Dallas Morning News from jail Monday and Tuesday.

Cristal Taylor, a 37-year-old ex-stripper, has a history of legal woes. From jail this week, Taylor said she is pregnant with Mavericks star Dirk Nowitzki's child and that they planned to marry before her recent arrest. Click through the gallery for police booking photos of sports stars.

With Loss, Atlanta Faces Questions

Cherry Picking recaps the previous day's NBA playoff action.

Progress looks like this. Atlanta, long a laughingstock of the NBA, made the playoffs last season. This year, the Hawks advanced to the second round. Progress, right?

Well, from my seat it doesn't look like a whole lot of progress. More than offering new hope for tomorrow, the struggle against Miami followed by obliteration at the hands of Cleveland has pointed out Atlanta's specific deficiencies. The shortcomings are intrinsic to this roster, the problems part-and-parcel with the strengths. I fail to see how the Hawks can get much better from here.

RoundCast: Mavs Finally Take 1 Back

Dirk NowitzkiBloggers knee-jerking on the phone + roundtable style = RoundCast.

The Mavericks finally won a game. Sure, they weren't "overmatched" in Game 3 and sure, this series should be a lot closer than it feels, but that doesn't mean anything, because the Nuggets are still up 3-1. Of course, if Matt Moore had his way, it would be 2-2. Which is exactly why we convened another Roundcast -- Watson, Moore and I discuss whether the Mavericks have a chance, rehash old would-be game-changing fouls, and briefly mention that series where LeBron James destroyed the Hawks.

Dirk's Big Night Keeps Dallas Alive

Dirk NowitzkiDALLAS -- The Mavericks were on the brink of ending their season and raising all sorts of questions about the direction of the team.

Dirk Nowitzki ended those questions for a few days on Monday night with a wonderful performance in a Game 4 victory over the Nuggets.

The Mavericks' 119-117 win over the Nuggets keeps their season alive until at least Wednesday. But it was Nowitzki who made it that way.

The Biggest Shot in Melo's Life

DALLAS -- He sat in the Nuggets locker room with ice on his knees and right elbow smiling.

He also looked tired.

But Carmelo Anthony had a reason to be. He made the biggest shot of his NBA career, a 3-pointer with one second to play, to give the Nuggets a dramatic victory over the Mavericks on Saturday.

The victory has pushed the Nuggets to a 3-0 lead in this Western Conference series. And Game 3 was ugly. The three days off between Games 2 and 3 might have something to do with it. The 61 fouls called also bothered the flow of the game.

But when it was time for something special to happen, Anthony made it so.

Nuggets Push Mavs to Brink After No Call

It's been a postseason full of questionable calls. And no one's really been happy with it. Most times when a team's fans call foul (or no-foul) on the officiating, you can attribute it to homerism and turning a blind eye to a team's mistakes.

Of course, there are exceptions.

The Dallas Mavericks held a two point lead over the Denver Nuggets this afternoon with six seconds left. The Nuggets inbounded and Carmelo Anthony bobbled the ball before recovering and swinging left. Antoine Wright approached Melo at the wing in full knowledge of two facts.

1. The Mavericks had a foul to give.

2. With a one-possession lead on defense with a foul to give, you always foul to interrupt the play.

Wright came at Melo with two seconds on the clock. And that's where things went a little haywire.

HausCast 20: Jay Mariotti Talks Manny, Favre, Dirk's Ladyfriend and Tiger

The FanHouse Podcast: Because bloggers are much sexier on the phone.

We get to celebrate our 20th HausCast by welcoming FanHouse's own Jay Mariotti, whom you've likely heard of, due to his presence on your tee-vee screens every day at 5 on "Around the Horn", not to mention his work here at the 'Haus. Fortunately, there's plenty of heavy news to choose from: Manny Ramirez suspended for 50 games, Brett Favre deciding he won't come back to football after all, and Dirk Nowitzki getting busted in a very weird relationship. Ryan and I discuss this super-trifecta of sports news with Jay and then bounce around the idea of golfers on steroids, just for shiggles. Enjoy.

RoundCast: LeBron James Domination, Dirk's Lady and Rob Mahoney

Bloggers knee-jerking on the phone + roundtable style = RoundCast.

Because you can't get enough, and because at this point my headphones are creating an awkward indention in my hair, Watson and I fired up the podcast machine following Thursday's NBA action (yes, "action" here means "beatdowns" and "ugly alleged fiancees").

We were fortunate enough to be joined by Rob Mahoney of The Two Man Game and Hardwood Paroxysm. There's plenty of LeBron James, a little Dirk Nowitzki and some Denver Nuggets-Dallas Mavericks debate, not to mention previews of Friday's games. Bonus: we may or may not tell Rob he's our favorite HP writer ever to appear on a RoundCast! Enjoy.

Cavs Undefeated, and Will Be for a While

LeBron JamesCherry Picking recaps the previous day's NBA playoff action.

The Cavaliers are making a solid case for the NBA to institute a mercy rule. Not only have they won all six of their playoff games by double-digits, they've done so without allowing an opponent to score more than 85 points even once. They led the Hawks by 30 heading into the final quarter before finally taking their foot off the gas -- Cleveland's reserves gave back 10 points in the final quarter before the Cavs won by "only" 20.

Had Mike Brown allowed his starters to play the final quarter, it's possible the Cavs could have challenged Denver's 58-point margin in Game 4 of their first-round series with the Hornets, especially considering the Hawks lost Joe Johnson to a severely sprained ankle in the third quarter.
