Just because you pee outside of your black Bentley at 4 a.m. in Miami and get charged with drunk driving does not mean your fans will turn on you. Why, just ask Dontrelle Willis. Marlins fans - that rarest baseball breed - seem ready to forgive. They swarmed around Willis at a team promotional event shortly before spring training, alarmed by persistent speculation Willis might be on the trading block because his $6.45 million salary saps the team's modest budget. This, I think is a good thing. D-Train seems like a pretty good guy, he's goofy and well, baseball needs players like him around, to fill in the cracks for those less desirable. I mean, I know Marlin fans don't have all too much to rally behind these days, but either way, at least Willis is getting better treatment than a certain Yankee.
"The fans said, 'We want you to stay,"' Willis said. "With the trade talk, that's how passionate our fans are. That was pretty much the tone."
And hey, who out there hasn't drunkenly peed in public at 4 a.m.? Come on, be honest.
