Giants Look Sloppy, Undisciplined in 27-20 Loss to New England

Forget about everything that happened tonight; this game was all about one play. On a 33 yard run by Reuben Droughns, one of the New York Giants was hustling unlike anyone I'd ever seen before. They shot up the field so fast that they literally passed Droughns on the way. So, who was this extremely intense player? It was none other than back-up quarterback J-Load, Jared Lorenzen! If you didn't see the game, I kid you not; Lorenzen sprinted up the field in effort to make a lead block for the very man he had just handed the ball to. What more can you say? It was very inspiring to see -- it's obvious Lorenzen is constantly giving his all.

Unfortunately, that was the only highlight of the night for Lorenzen. Although he's had a rather impressive preseason to date, his weak points were made abundantly clear tonight. He seems to struggle under pressure and holds onto the ball entirely too long. Many people will probably attribute that to the substitute offensive lineman, but J-Load certainly didn't help his case.

On the other hand, Eli Manning ended his preseason on a high note. He only played the first series, but was able to go five of eight (two drops) for 58 yards and led the Giants down the field for a touchdown. Manning really appears to be primed for that breakout season everyone says they are waiting for.

Giants Training Camp Notebook: Another Player Carted Off; Sam Madison Inconsistent

Giants Training Camp Notebook is a cliff notes style post aimed at giving Giants fans up-to-date news about the most recent training camp practices.

- Sam Madison has had an odd training camp to date. Some days he resembles the Madison of old, while other days he resembles a Madison a year older and a year slower than the 2006 version. Today saw a bit of both, leaving more questions about his ability to start on this team.

- The Giants continued to suffer from their yearly injury onslaught this afternoon. Back-up tight end Darcy Johnson was the unfortunate victim today when he went down with a right knee injury. He had to be carter off the field, but late reports suggest that it "isn't serious."

- After having one of his better practices yesterday, Eli Manning came out and had a rough morning. Quite a few of his passes were sailing to no one, but he did end on a high note, tossing a touchdown in the two-minute drill. And, for the record, he came back and had a pretty good night practice.

Giants Training Camp Notebook: Jared Lorenzen Long Snaps; Guy Whimper Starting?

Giants Training Camp Notebook is a cliff notes style post aimed at giving Giants fans up-to-date news about the most recent training camp practices.

- I am going to start off with the weird news of the day: Back-up quarterback Jared Lorenzen was practicing long snapping duties! No, I am not kidding. Although practice was officially over at the time, Lorenzen got down and began tossing them back -- and if I understand correctly, he did quite well.

- Only a day after General Manager Jerry Reese declared the battle for left tackle to be "over," it was announced that Guy Whimper will start with the first team on Saturday night. My only reaction? Great way to get Eli Manning killed.

- What is going on with Osi Umenyiora? This guy has been on fire and given no reason to doubt his earlier prediction that he'd be the NFL's premier defensive end.

Giants Training Camp Notebook: Kevin Dockery Impresses; Who Will Return Punts?

Giants Training Camp Notebook is a cliff notes style post aimed at giving Giants fans up-to-date news about the most recent training camp practices.

- Many people thought cornerback Kevin Dockery was going to "break out" last year, but unfortunately that never happened. However, with the new season comes a new opportunity and so far Dockery is making the most of it. He had another good practice yesterday and his constant motor is earning him a ton of respect in the locker room.

- The Giants have a huge dilemma on their hands that doesn't involve injuries. Its punt returns and who is going to field them. They tried a variety of people yesterday including Michael Jennings, Ahmad Bradshaw, R.W. McQuarters and Sinorice Moss. Rookie Aaron Ross is also a consideration.

- Brandon Jacobs leads as intensely as he plays. Yesterday during sprints, he happened to notice that fullback Robert Douglas was merely jogging and it was on from there. Jacobs lit into Douglas and you can bet that he'll never jog during sprints again.

Giants Training Camp Notebook: Aaron Ross Improving; Giants Botch Trick Play

Fear not, Giants Training Camp Notebook has not been discontinued, it just went on a short hiatus. In the off chance it's actually something you enjoy, prepare to get your fill.

- Rookie cornerback Aaron Ross had a decent day today and had moments that reminded the Giants why they drafted him in the first round. Unfortunately, his evening practice was cut short when he went down with a hamstring injury.

- The Giants have been searching for some trickery over the last few practices, but it hasn't worked well and if today was any indication on how it's going to be, they should just forget about it.

Eli Manning lateraled the ball to second-year wide receiver Sinorice Moss who was supposed to throw it down field to Michael Jennings. Well, things didn't work out as they were planned and Moss ended up tossing the ball back toward Manning, only to have it intercepted by defensive tackle Fred Robbins.

Giants Training Camp Notebook: Another Player Injured; Brandon Jacobs Shines

Giants Training Camp Notebook is a cliff notes style article aimed at informing Giants fans about the ongoings of the day. It combines reports from both the morning and afternoon practices.

- As I mentioned yesterday when long snapper Ryan Kuehl suffered a leg injury, the Giants can't seem to escape the injury bug. Unfortunately, it sunk its fangs into another one today. Defensive back Kevin Dockery went down in the morning practice with a concussion that was so bad he couldn't even attend team meetings. Tom Coughlin claimed he was "real concerned" about it.

- Brandon Jacobs has come exactly as advertised so far. He appears to be very quick and quite decisive. He hits the holes hard without hesitation and has been bowling people over. That theme continued today when he completely demolished Gibril Wilson (or Antonio Pierce depending on what you read) in route to a score.

- Osi Umenyiora continued his dominance of Guy Whimper and David Diehl today. That's both good and bad for a variety of reasons. It's great to hear that Umenyiora is looking like a pro bowler, but it's bad to hear that Whimper is terrible and Diehl is struggling.

Giants Training Camp Notebook: Will Demps Demoted; Osi Umenyiora Shines

Day number two has just ended and I was so excited about some of the news that I decided to make this an evening thing rather than a morning thing. If you'd like to keep up on all "Giants Training Camp Notebook" updates, just click the link and bookmark that bad boy.

- Ralph Vacchiano of "The Blue Screen" says the Giants have no intentions of sitting around and waiting for Michael Strahan. Although the scheduled meeting with Simeon Rice has been postponed until Tuesday, New York will pursue a contract when he arrives.

- Will Demps has been "demoted" and he's not exactly happy with it. James Butler has been practicing with the first team in his place.

"My track record speaks for itself," Demps said. "It's real early. I'm not going to say, 'OK, he's the starter,' because we haven't played any games. I'm healthy and I'm in the best shape I've been in. This is the guy I felt I should've been last year."
- Sam Madison missed a few plays today due to cramping, but it's nothing serious.
