Arizona State Neutral on Hawaii, Notre Dame

The Arizona State Sun Devils are not--repeat ARE NOT--talking to anyone wearing green these days.

ASU denies reports by Hawaii's athletic director that it had offered the Sun Devils to test out the new Dennis Erickson regime in an October 20th matchup in Honolulu. When Michigan State opted out of its game against Hawaii-paying the Rainbow Warriors a quarter-million dollar cancellation fee, Hawaii went looking for an opponent that Heisman Candidate Colt Brennan show off against. Hawaii had reportedly offered seven-figures to entice the Sun Devils but to no avail. I think this may be the first time anyone has turned down a million-dollar payday to make a trip to the Islands.

What's more, Arizona State was not made an offer by Notre Dame to be part of its "America is Our Home Stadium" series for 2017. The Irish have been adding "home games" all across the country at neutral sites. That game will be played in South Bend, home of the actual University of Notre Dame.

With all these non-denial denials, I wonder...am I the only one who thinks that Baghdad Bob has become athletic director in Tempe?

Hawaii Fans Want a College GameDay Visit

Upside: Hawaii. In November.

Hawaii.

Hawaii.

Downside: I'm unwilling to do the math at the moment but the show would have something like a 1 a.m. local start time. Nothing says poor execution like a visual TV show set in paradise but filmed in the pitch black of morning hours. Also, Herbie and crew might be a little sluggish working their way through the show and subsequent early-morning football. But nothing says you're living life like a 3-in-the-morning post-taping Mai Tai.

The Wariors Will Throw has circled the Nov. 23 game against Boise State. Somewhere, over the rainbow ... this will happen. But not in real life. GameDay has enough troubles making its way out west for those 6 a.m. starts, I can imagine the expenses, challenge of recreating the set and insurance issues for a trip across the Pacific Ocean into paradise weigh heavily against this. But we can dream, right?

Hawaii Football Can't Find Another Dance Partner

Or is it Hula partner? Or Haka partner? Whatever, the Hawaii football program needs a 13th opponent but threw in the towel a few days ago.
The University of Hawaii has failed to add a 13th opponent and will play a 12-game football schedule this season, officials said Friday.

The schedule includes seven homes games, including two against Division I-AA opponents. Because of an exemption, the Warriors are allowed to play 13 regular-season games.

"After a long and exhaustive process that included discussions with several schools, no team we targeted for a 13th game would agree to play at UH in 2007," Hawaii athletics director Herman Frazier said.
I have a feeling we may need to reference this in December when Hawaii is undefeated or something darn near it and people start grousing about their weak out-of-conference slate. We warned you, it's coming!

I realize travel's expensive lately, but certainly someone in D-I should have been willing to make the finest road trip in all of college football. Or maybe Hawaii was unwilling to play that special someone? Who knows.

Colt Brennan Wants a Few More Bars of Soap

Hawai'i quarterback Colt Brennan, the latest link in a quarterback chain dating back to Kliff Kingsbury, David Klingler and Ty Detmer says Hawaii's facilities are lame, man.
"There's a good chance we could be a Top 25 preseason ranked football team and we can't even get soap in our locker room," he said Friday. "We're going against programs that have $20 million facilities with support and tradition. And you want us to compete with that? Just help us out."
Good luck with that ...

Brennan's sudden outspokenness may be because island life is costing him a few pennies.
Brennan also complained about having to pay for parking to attend practices, workouts and study sessions. The quarterback said he racked up as much as $800 in parking fines at the Manoa campus and his car has been towed twice.
Colt, I'd like you to meet my friend Sam Keller. I really think you can help him relax and come to terms with a bothersome campus parking experience. Sam can complain about parking and couch it in a general complaint about Nebraska's facilities. He'll get you some soap, you'll get him back down from his 11 to a reasonable six. Sound good? Just don't tell the NCAA about it, they'll find some way to make this little compact illegal.
