A look at top 2008 NFL draft prospects from tonight's LSU-Ohio State BCS Championship Game.
LSU offenseWR Early Doucet: Doucet's draft stock has declined a bit because of injuries, but he's a first-round talent and is going to be playing healthy for the first time in more than three months. NFL scouts are thrilled about the opportunity of watching Doucet matched up one-on-one with Ohio State cornerback Malcolm Jenkins.
RB Jacob Hester: I disagree with almost everyone on Hester. Most people think he's going to be the prototypical NFL fullback, which is to say he won't get a lot of playing time and he'll mostly block when he is on the field. I think he can be a ball carrier in the NFL, especially in short-yardage situations, where he has a knack for slipping through the smallest of openings in the line. He's also good at catching passes out of the backfield.
G Herman Johnson: What's impressive about Johnson (pictured) isn't so much that he's good as that he's huge. He's
listed at 6-foot-7 and 356 pounds, and although he's not the dominating blocker you'd want a guy that big to be, there's going to be an NFL team out there that decides to reach for him in the draft simply because guys that size don't come around very often. Johnson actually weighed about 400 pounds in 2004, when he redshirted as a freshman. In 2005 he started to get on the field, and by 2006 he was a full-time starter. He still has a year of eligibility left in 2008, but I have a feeling he'll declare early and go higher in the NFL draft than the experts think.
