Former UFC Champion Tim Sylvia Agrees To DREAM New Year's Eve Fight

Tim Sylvia has verbally agreed to make his Japanese MMA debut for DREAM on New Year's Eve. Sylvia's agent Monte Cox confirmed the news with FanHouse.

The former UFC heavyweight champion will be a part of the Dynamite!! 2009 MMA/K-1 hybrid show, which has become a yearly tradition in Japan.

Tim Sylvia got back on the winning track in September, defeating the over-matched Jason Riley at Adrenaline MMA 4. "The Maine-iac" broke his hand early in the fight, but according to his agent Monte Cox, the former UFC heavyweight champion got his cast removed on Thursday and will be ready to fight again in December.

In fact, Cox said he has been involved in serious negotiations with both DREAM and Sengoku, and believes Sylvia will fight next on New Year's Eve for either organization.

Ikuhisa Minowa, Sokoudjou Advance to Super Hulk Final



Ikuhisa Minowa and Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou were victorious Tuesday at DREAM.11 in Yokohama, Japan and will meet each other in the final of the Super Hulk tournament at Dynamite!! 2009 on New Year's Eve.

The self-described pro wrestler Minowa submitted the seven-foot-two K-1 fighter Hong-Man Choi despite giving up over 125 pounds and 17 inches in height.

NBA star Shaquille O'Neal has said on numerous occasions that he would like to fight 7-foot-2 Korean fighter Hong Man Choi in an MMA match when his basketball career ends. The four-time champion even appears to be somewhat serious about this challenge, as videos of him training MMA have popped up on the Internet as of late.

When FanHouse contacted Choi, who is scheduled to face Ikuhisa Minowa in the DREAM Super Hulk Tournament semifinals on Tuesday in Japan, about fighting O'Neal at some point in the future, he simply responded via e-mail, "Yes, if there is a chance."

Whether it's standing in a batting cage – without a bat – and carefully dodging baseballs launched by a pitching machine to chasing down flying airplanes on foot, DREAM's Ikuhisa Minowa has long embraced a pro wrestling persona by devising the most unorthodox training routines leading up to his fights.

For his Oct. 6 fight against Hong-Man Choi at the Super Hulk open-weight tournament at DREAM 11, Minowa (42-30-8) is at it again by strapping on a mawashi and practicing traditional sumo stances before shoving sumo wrestlers across the room.

Dream Super Hulk Semifinals Announced, But No Gegard Mousasi

The Dream Super Hulk open-weight tournament will resume at Dream.11 on Oct. 6 in Yokohama despite the absence of Strikeforce light heavyweight champion Gegard Mousasi.

The promotion announced Wednesday for the semifinals that Hong Man Choi (2-2) will face Ikuhisa Minowa (42-30-8) and Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou (6-4) will receive an opponent to be determined because Mousasi has withdrawn due to an injury to his left shoulder.
