Crystal Ballin' takes a team-by-team look at what should, could, and probably will happen in the June 26th NBA Draft.Golden State's preparing for Nellieball's Last Stand, which means Chris Mullin could continue to annoy Don Nelson with high-value rookies (bah!) or mix things up to land a veteran banger. Or one of 5,765 scenarios could play out. Where "Who the heck knows what's going to happen?!?" happens.
Picks: #14, #49.
Needs: The Warriors need, and publicly pray for, rebounding help. Andris Biedrins does a fine job, but plays sparingly (commensurate to his talent). Nellie, you imagine, would be more likely to call on a banger who can run and shoot. Depth in the point guard ranks seems important too, given Baron Davis' tenuous tenure beyond June 30 and Monta Ellis' two-guard stylings.
Best case scenario: Darrell Arthur, without question, would be a dream for Nellieball. Arthur was a good rebounder and post scorer at Kansas; his versatile offensive skills might also allow him to play next to Brandan Wright in the future as a big, Odomish three. Adding a contributing swingman to help assuage the likely losses of at least two of Kelenna Azubuike, Matt Barnes and Mickael Pietrus would be swell; Davon Jefferson or J.R. Giddens are possibilities.
