NFL FanHouse Midseason Midtacular: Who Isn't Getting the Respect He Deserves?

NFL FanHouse Midseason Midtacular: because handing out awards at the halfway point in the season seemed like the right thing to do.

You have a group of guys that everyone rants about. Drew Brees, Adrian Peterson, Andre Johnson -- these guys are great and deserve the press they receive. But what about the other guys? The players that are busting their tails for the team and aren't on the top of the Pardon the Interruption roll week in and week out. These guys are underrated, under-appreciated but better than most would expect. Who makes the list? You shall soon see...

Roddy White, WR Atlanta -- Matt Ryan might be having a great season, but a lot can be attributed to White, who has had 112 yards receiving or more in four of his last six games. Starting the season slow, White is now averaging 91.6 yards per game and has become one of the most consistent wide-outs in the league. Too bad most people still would rather have Terrell Owens or Randy Moss.

Owen Daniels, TE Houston -- Yeah, if you didn't know, he's the other option for Matt Schaub in Houston, and he's a damn good substitute for Andre Johnson. Daniels averages 66 yards per game with two touchdowns, catching at least three balls a game this season. If there is a guy you'd want on your team that nobody has heard of, Owens is him. Is it crazy to call him the best tight end in Texas?

Titans Sign Ex-Colt Jake Scott

The Tennessee Titans have reached a contract agreement with free agent guard Jake Scott, formerly of the Indianapolis Colts.

Scott has reportedly agreed to a four-year contract that pays about $5 million a year, which, in my view, is more money than he's worth. Yes, Scott has started the last 55 games for the Colts, but he's mostly just a serviceable player, not a dominant blocker, and for $5 million a year I want more than juts a serviceable guard.

On the other hand, this signing benefits the Titans in a second way: It takes away a bit of the Colts' offensive continuity. The Titans may have been willing to pay a bit extra to Scott to keep him from returning to Indianapolis, a division rival.

Scott is the Titans' third free-agent addition of this off-season, following tight end Alge Crumpler and defensive end Jevon Kearse.

Jets Need an Offensive Line for Christmas

We didn't learn anything new about the Jets in yesterday's 10-6 loss to the Titans. We knew they couldn't run the ball before Albert Haynesworth used Thomas Jones for target practice. We also knew they couldn't protect the quarterback before Kyle Vanden Bosch sacked Chad Pennington three times. Taken in tandem, those two things make it clear what the Jets number one offseason priority must be. Forget about Darren McFadden and Matt Ryan. Drafting them without massively upgrading the offensive line would be like buying a Porsche and outfitting it with bald tires and leaded gasoline.

That doesn't mean the Jets shouldn't draft an impact offensive player, however. They have money to spend under the cap and there are several appealing free agents to be on the offensive line. Alan Faneca, Ryan Lilja and Jake Scott are three guards who would represent a quantum leap on the Jets front while Jordan Gross and Max Starks deserve a look at tackle.

Mike Tannenbaum hasn't shown much proclivity for the free agent market since assuming the GM job but he needs to change course. They were playing practice squadders yesterday and it's a wonder Pennington didn't get killed. If the Jets are going to improve on this dreadful season, they must do everything they can to make their offensive line a wall instead of a sieve.
