Titans Get to Unveil Their Secret Weapon This Week

Nate Washington should be able to play a full set of snaps and rookie cornerback Ryan Mouton should make his debut as a punt returner, but the biggest piece of good news for Titans fans is the health of rookie tight end Jared Cook.

Cook missed the Steelers' game with a foot injury, but Tennessee is ready to unveil it's secret weapon against the the Texans. He's got the speed of a wide receiver and the size of a tight end. And before he injured his foot in the preseason, he showed that he actually has an idea of how to use that size and speed.

Tennessee Titans 2009 Preview: Run, Run and Run Some More

Training camps have wrapped up, the NFL season is right around the corner, and it's still hot as sin outside. But instead of cooling you off with a warm island song, FanHouse break out ye old heat check for our 2009 NFL Season Previews. " We'll rate each club in 5 categories on a scale of 1 to 10, high score wins.

Let's rewind back to March 2008: I joined a couple buddies of mine for a Spring Break excursion to Las Vegas. We had an outstanding time, and the day we were to leave, we headed down to the sportsbook to lay down some futures bets. One of my friends had an interesting wager. His Super Bowl bet? The Tennessee Titans.

Fisher Shoots Down Harrison Rumors

Jeff FisherIt hasn't been a great week for ESPN's NFL crew. On Monday, they were beaten by Fox's Jay Glazer on the news that Brett Favre was going to come out of retirement again. Later that day, ESPN's Mark Schlereth quoted Raiders head coach Tom Cable as saying Nancy Gay's FanHouse report that Cable had punched assistant coach Randy Hanson and broken his jaw was "absolutely ridiculous." By the next day, even the Raiders' internal spin was that Cable broke Hanson's jaw by knocking him out of a chair rather than punching him.

Now Titans coach Jeff Fisher is completely denying an Adam Schefter report that the team was talking to former Colts wide receiver Marvin Harrison about a possible job. Fisher didn't hedge in shooting down that report:

Fantasy Football Coin Flip: Steve Slaton or Chris Johnson?

Chris Johnson / Steve SlatonToday we're focusing on a couple of young running backs who are both primed for big seasons. Many view Chris Johnson as a breakout in the mold of a young LaDainian Tomlinson and it's been said around these parts that Steve Slaton could be in for a Terrell Davis-like campaign. Yes, lofty expectations for both, but who doesn't like either of these guys? You'll find them both entrenched in the Top 10 of our own running back rankings.

However, that doesn't mean we can't agree to disagree as to which guy is the better pick at the end of the first round, right? And so, my colleague R.J. White and I took to the debate. I like Slaton, he likes Johnson ... follow along.

What to Watch for in Saturday's Games That Don't Count

Matthew StaffordIt's Saturday in August.

It's time for football. Instead of coeds and keggers though, today's football players will be getting paid. That is as long as they can stay on the roster.

Fantasy Football Cut-N-Go: Edwards Owners Breathe Easy, Vick Signs

Cut-N-Go is Fantasy Football FanHouse's daily gathering of links from around the web, covering the goings-on in NFL Training Camp which have an impact on fantasy value.

The Michael Vick hype train stopped in Buffalo today, with Rich Eisen mistakenly tweeting about a phantom press conference after the interweb stirred up some Vick-to-Buffalo hype. I still think it would be best for Vick to play behind an elite QB for a while and build some good faith with the NFL. At this point, you can still ignore Vick in your drafts, and keep Edwards steady as a solid QB2.

Update: Vick reportedly has signed a two-year deal with the Eagles. He'd certainly have a ton of weapons if he saw the field in Philadelphia. I don't think that'll happen, unless Donovan McNabb succumbs to the injury bug, not out of the question considering the QB's history of health issues.

What else happened on this football-packed Thursday?

Titans Try Again for Receiver Help

Who moved to the head of the NFL class during the draft? Find out with FanHouse's team-by-team 2009 Draft Grades.

Well here we have it. After years of neglect, the Titans have finally decided to fix their receiver problem by drafting a big and fast receiver in the first round. By picking up Kenny Britt, Tennessee has finally realized that they can't ignore the team's biggest weakness. Right?

That may sound like a fair way to sum up the decision to draft the Rutgers wide receiver in the first round, but it leaves out a pretty significant point--Tennessee has been drafting plenty of receivers, they just can't seem to draft the right ones. It's unfair to say that the Titans have completely neglected the receiving corps. They've just been unable to properly scout/develop them. The Titans hit the jackpot by drafting Derrick Mason in the fourth-round in 1997, but they've consistently busted on picking receivers ever since.

LeSean McCoy Heads List of 'Other' Fantasy Relevant Players

We've already given a single post to each of the seemingly most relevant fantasy football impact players from the NFL Draft -- we say seemingly because bust-hood is always a possibility in this business -- but those are by no means the only players who might matter in this coming season. With that in mind, here are the rest of the guys who's impact will be felt:

LeSean McCoy, RB, Eagles (Round 2): If you end up with Brian Westbrook, you absolutely must have McCoy. The shifty stud from Pittsburgh is exactly the type of back Westbrook is, which means he can thrive in this offense.

Position Preview: Tight End

To get ready for this weekend's draft, we're looking position-by-position at who could go in the first round. Click here for the rest of the breakdowns.

First-Round Candidates

Brandon Pettigrew: There aren't many teams in the market for a first-round tight end, but when pick No. 21 pops up onto the TV, the Oklahoma State tight end will be waiting by the phone hoping to hear from the Eagles. Pettigrew is the rare first-round caliber tight end whose blocking is even better than his receiving, although he's also a good pass catcher. He would give the Eagles an every-down compliment to go with pass catching tight end Brent Celek.

David Buehler: World's Strongest Kicker

The NFL Network's first day of combine coverage just ended, and here's a quick recap: Alabama's Andre Smith -- all 800 pounds of him* -- went missing Saturday morning, while South Carolina's Jared Cook made himself some money by running 4.5 40-yard dash, the second fastest time by a tight end this decade.

But perhaps the story of the combine -- at least until Rich Eisen runs the 40 again -- is USC kicker David Buehler. Specialists -- kickers, punters, long snappers -- also get invited to the combine but never get any airtime because, well, the only thing worse than watching offensive linemen lift weights and run the cone drill is watching kickers, punters and long snappers do it.
