Jason MacDonald Hoping to End Career in UFC on His Terms

Jason MacDonald was once considered to be one of the top rising stars in the UFC's middleweight division, but the organization released him after losing five of his last eight fights in the Octagon. "The Athlete" is now looking to rebuild his career in one of the organizations that helped make him into a prospect: Canada's Maximum Fighting Championships. Unfortunately for MacDonald, though, his MFC return didn't go as planned, as he lost a unanimous decision to Travis Lutter in October. The loss marked his third in a row, but MacDonald is still confident that a few consecutive wins will land him a spot, once again, in the UFC.

FanHouse spoke to MacDonald at Xtreme Couture in Las Vegas last week about his upcoming fight against Solomon Hutcherson at MFC 23 on Dec. 4 and what he needs to do get his career back on track. The full video interview is below.

Travis Lutter Outpoints Jason MacDonald at MFC 22

The Ultimate Fighter 4 winner Travis Lutter won two out of three rounds to win the unanimous decision over hometown favorite Jason MacDonald at MFC 22 Friday night at the River Cree Resort and Casino in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

Lutter, arguably most discussed for presenting UFC champion Anderson Silva his toughest challenge in the UFC, spent the majority of the first two rounds on top of MacDonald. But besides choke attempts, Lutter hesitated in striking MacDonald on the ground.

Thales Leites Signs with Canada's MFC

Thales Leites, the most recent UFC middleweight title challenger, has found a new home in the Maximum Fighting Championship in Canada.

At 37, Nate Quarry Still Enjoying UFC Grind As He Readies for Tim Credeur

Nate QuarryIn April, Nate Quarry rebounded from the quickest loss in his career with a dominant first-round victory over Jason MacDonald. Now, the heavy-handed middleweight hopes to make it two in a row, but will need to stop the growing momentum of Tim Credeur, who is on a six-fight win streak. The two square off at UFC Fight Night on Sept. 16.

In this FanHouse interview, Quarry (11-3) candidly talks about the Credeur matchup, his disappointment in losing to Demian Maia, why he'd still take the Rich Franklin fight knowing it would end in infamy, and the best and worst parts of being a fighter at age 37.

MacDonald on UFC Run: I Lost Focus

Jason MacDonald opened a lot of eyes when he first arrived to the UFC in October 2006, as his first two wins were against well-known fighters Ed Herman and Chris Leben. However since then, "The Athlete" went 3-5 inside the Octagon, most recently losing a one-sided fight to Nate Quarry in April. Following the Quarry lose, the Canadian fighter was released from the UFC.

FanHouse recently spoke to MacDonald about what went wrong for him in the UFC and his road back. Check out the full video interview below.

Ultimate Fighter Finale Weigh-In Results: Wilson Gouveia Misses Weight

Wilson Gouveia missed weight for his fight with Jason MacDonald at tomorrow's Ultimate Fighter Finale, coming in at 189 pounds -- four pounds over the middleweight limit -- at today's weigh-in.

According to UFC.com, the Nevada State Athletic Commission won't allow Gouveia to make a second attempt to make weight, and the fight will go on at a catch weight of 189 pounds. Gouveia will forfeit 20% of his purse to MacDonald.

Missing weight -- especially by as much as four pounds -- is a sign of a lack of professionalism on the part of Gouveia, who has an 11-5 MMA record, including 5-2 in the UFC. If Gouveia doesn't put on a great show against MacDonald tomorrow night, this could cost him his UFC contract.

Everyone else made weight for tomorrow's fights. Full weigh-in results are below.
