Tiger Off to Hot Start at Quail Hollow

If you know anything about Tiger Woods, it's this -- when the top golfer in the world gets off to a hot start, it usually means doom for the rest of the field. Since 2005, Tiger has opened tournaments with rounds of 65 or better six times, winning four of those events.

On Thursday at Quail Hollow, Tiger's first tournament since a disappointing Masters, Woods was on fire, torching Quail Hollow Club for a 7-under 65 that included a 30 on his second nine. Woods started on the 10th hole, and was slow to get going, making just one birdie on his first nine holes, but the front nine was where he got a little crazy.

Who Is Ready for the Masters?

Because the Masters is the best time of the year for golf, FanHouse has strung together a list of some interesting facts about the Masters and some of the players teeing it up this week. Dive in, enjoy, and add any extra tidbits you have in the comments.

Video From the Stands at 16th Hole of FBR Open

This weekend, FanHouse is out at the FBR Open, a tournament known more for its party atmosphere than its golf.

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- As the shadows grew longer at TPC Scottsdale on Saturday, the fans become far less subdued. At this point, they've knocked back some liquid courage, they've been roasting in the abnormally hot January sun, and they're anxious to see someone stick it close from just 123 yards.

Nobody added to the seven career hole-in-ones on the 16th on Saturday, but a few hit it pretty darn close, including Jeff Maggert, who yanked his wedge back on this hole to near inches of an ace. Sitting in the stands, I got the full experience and while this video isn't exactly high-definition, it shows what it is like when someone hits a good shot.

Jeff Maggert on FedEx Cup: Tim Finchem Shoved It Down Our Throats

I think everyone on earth except PGA Tour Commissioner Tim Finchem and some FedEx executives agrees that this whole FedEx Cup idea is kinda stupid. But not many people have been quite as blunt about it as Jeff Maggert, who had this to say:

"Probably half the players out here couldn't care less about it," he said of the FedExCup. "The other half are indifferent. ... I hear a lot being written, but I don't see anybody writing anything about Finchem," Maggert said. "I mean, this was his idea. He really didn't consult any of the players. He kind of shoved it down our throats and said, 'This is what we're going to do.' "

I'm not quite sure I get the distinction between the players who "couldn't care less" and the players who are "indifferent," but the point remains. Finchem seems to want the FedEx Cup to become the PGA Tour's version of the Super Bowl. It appears to be well on its way to becoming the PGA Tour's version of the Pro Bowl.
