After Move and Medication, Jens Pulver To Return To WEC Cage in 2010

Jens Pulver is planning to bring a little evil back to the WEC cage one more time.

The former UFC lightweight champion and MMA legend, who has not been heard from since losing to Josh Grispi in June and was assumed to be finished as an active fighter, plans to return to featherweight action in early 2010, he told FanHouse.

"I'm going to fight again," he said. "And I'm about as confident as I possibly can be."

Urijah Faber Has 'No Idea' When He'll Be Ready for WEC Return

All around the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas during UFC 100 weekend, MMA fighters could be seen signing autographs for adoring throngs of fans. It all seemed pretty routine: smile, shake, sign, pose. But one thing was different about the Silver Star booth. The athlete putting his pen to paper there was doing so despite having casts on both of his hands.

Urijah Faber, the former WEC featherweight champion, badly injured both of his hands during his July unanimous decision loss to Mike Brown. He dislocated his left thumb and suffered two broken bones on his right hand. The latter injury required steel plates to hasten recovery.

Faber says now that he has "no idea" when he'll be able to return to the cage, and that "it's going to be some months." In fact, it's quite likely that we won't see him back in the cage until 2010.

WEC 41: Jens Pulver Loses, MMA Career Likely Over

Jens Pulver, the former UFC lightweight champion and longtime fan favorite, likely fought for the last time Sunday night at WEC 41 when he lasted less than a minute before being submitted by Josh Grispi.

Pulver, a featherweight who is one of the best small fighters in the history of the sport, has now lost six of his last seven fights -- and none of the losses was particularly close. At age 34, he simply doesn't have the same power and explosiveness that he had in his prime.

MMA Star Jens Pulver Opens Up About His Abusive Childhood

Jens Pulver, the former UFC lightweight champion who's preparing for a June 7 fight in World Extreme Cagefighting, chatted with FanHouse readers Monday and discussed more than just his career in MMA. He also discussed growing up with an abusive father, and how his own tough childhood has motivated him to be a good father to his kids, and a good role model to children in his community.

Jens Pulver Chats With FanHouse

Jens Pulver, the World Extreme Cagefighting star and former UFC lightweight champion, will chat with FanHouse users on Monday, May 11 at 1 PM ET.

If you want to ask Jens about his upcoming fight with Josh Grispi at WEC 41, about his thoughts on the WEC 41 main event between Mike Brown and Urijah Faber, or about anything else in the world of MMA, this is the place and May 11 at 1 PM ET is the time.

The chat starts below.

WEC 41: Jens Pulver vs. Josh Grispi

Jens Pulver will fight Josh Grispi at WEC 41 on June 7, World Extreme Cagefighting officials confirmed to me Sunday.

The featherweight fight features an old veteran in the 34-year-old Pulver taking on a young up-and-comer in the 21-year-old Grispi. It will be the biggest fight in the career of Grispi, who has a 12-1 record, including 2-0 in the WEC, and it will be an opportunity for Pulver, who has lost five of his last six fights, to prove he still has something left.

WEC Boss Peter Dropick on Miguel Torres, Faber-Brown 2 and Pay-Per-View

World Extreme Cagefighting is considered by many to be the little brother of the UFC. But while the fighters in the WEC are small, I found in talking to WEC Vice President Peter Dropick that there's nothing small about the promotion's plans.

Dropick and I talked this week about the organization's April 5 show in Chicago, the future plans of bantamweight champion Miguel Torres, why the upcoming featherweight title fight between Mike Brown and Urijah Faber will be on pay-per-view, why TV viewers didn't see the aftermath of a nasty knockout in the WEC's most recent show, and where Dropick himself fits in a company run by Dana White, Lorenzo Fertitta and Frank Fertitta. The full interview is below.

WEC 38: Urijah Faber Says Jens Pulver Fight Will Show He's on the Right Track

Three months ago, Urijah Faber was the biggest star in World Extreme Cagefighting, a featherweight champion who was widely regarded as one of the Top 5 pound-for-pound MMA fighters in the world. But when Faber lost to Mike Brown at WEC 36, he didn't only lose his title belt, he also lost his status as one of the sport's truly elite athletes.

Today Faber told me he's ready to show on Sunday against Jens Pulver at WEC 38 that he's a better fighter than he appeared to be against Brown.

WEC 38: Urijah Faber vs. Jens Pulver 2, Donald Cerrone vs. Jamie Varner

Urijah Faber, who was considered World Extreme Cagefighting's best fighter and biggest star until his stunning loss to Mike Brown three weeks ago, will be getting back in the cage soon.

And there's great news for MMA fans: His next fight will be a rematch with Jens Pulver on the undercard of the January 25 WEC 38 show. Faber and Pulver previously had a Fight of the Year candidate at WEC 34, and although they're now both coming off losses, seeing them in the cage together again should be great.

MMA Weekly reports that Faber and Pulver haven't signed bout agreements yet but have verbally agreed to the rematch, in which Faber will be heavily favored. The main event at WEC 38 is expected to feature lightweight champion Jamie Varner defending his title against Donald Cerrone.

WEC 38 takes place the day after Affliction: Day of Reckoning, which features a main event of Fedor Emelianenko vs. Andrei Arlovski. With the Affliction show scheduled for Anaheim and the WEC show set to take place in San Diego, it should be a very good weekend for MMA fans in Southern California.

NOTE: There's a conflicting report saying Faber will likely fight Jose Aldo.

WEC 36 Video: Jens Pulver-Leonard Garcia

While EliteXC tells fans they need to do their own YouTube research, World Extreme Cagefighting continues to do a solid job using YouTube to promote its upcoming WEC 36 show. Here are highlights of Jens Pulver and Leonard Garcia, who will fight in a featherweight battle on the undercard:

Pulver is coming off a loss to Urijah Faber, and although Pulver got crushed, the mere fact that he went five rounds with Faber -- who entered the fight having won 12 straight in either the first or second round -- is impressive. Pulver is a former UFC lightweight champ and one of the best in history at the featherweight class, even if he's a little past his prime at age 33.

Garcia is best known to MMA fans for his decision loss to Roger Huerta at UFC 69 last year. That fight was at lightweight; like Pulver, Garcia is better suited to featherweight. WEC 36 takes place September 10 on Versus. This should be a good one.
