Falcons Lose Second-Round Pick William Moore for Season

William MooreOn Tuesday the Atlanta Falcons placed 2009 second-round draft pick William Moore on injured reserve with a hamstring injury.

Moore, who Atlanta thought would be ready to immediately help at safety from day one, has been battling injuries since training camp. The 55th-overall selection from Missouri had knee surgery at the beginning of camp, only to recover and hurt his hamstring shortly thereafter. Moore battled through two hamstring tweaks this season before finally succumbing to the final blow that landed the 24-year-old on the injured reserve list.

Fantasy Football Cut-N-Go: Jets' Washington Not Easily Replaced

Leon WashingtonCut-N-Go is Fantasy Football FanHouse's weekday roundup of the NFL news with fantasy football impact.

The season-ending injury to Jets running back Leon Washington is devastating for a number of reasons.

His change-of-pace running style will be sorely missed as will his 4.6 yards-per-carry average. The kick return team will also struggle to find a replacement. In fact, coach Rex Ryan says it will take many players to fill in for Washington.

Falcons Let Dolphins Hang Around, Still Pull Out Comfortable Win

Both the Miami Dolphins and the Atlanta Falcons made huge strides in 2008. Both teams won 11 games, made the playoffs and Miami won the tough AFC East division. The Week 1 battle between these two teams was supposed to feature lots of Wildcat formations and many points on the board. The script was re-written.

The Falcons won the game 19-7, but the Dolphins should feel fortunate that it wasn't a complete blowout. An aggressive Falcons defense shut down Miami until late in the fourth quarter -- a few hiccups on the part of the Atlanta offense, though, kept the game within reach.

Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan underthrew Roddy White in the first series of the game after the receiver opened up a 5-yard cushion on the nearest Miami defender -- a play that should have been an easy touchdown for White.

Atlanta Falcons 2009 Season Preview: Calling for an Encore

Matt RyanTraining camps have wrapped up, the NFL season is right around the corner, and it's still hot as sin outside. But instead of cooling you off with a warm island song, FanHouse break out ye old heat check for our 2009 NFL Season Previews. We'll rate each club in 5 categories on a scale of 1 to 10, high score wins.

Atlanta's sudden rise to prominence in 2008 began rather suddenly when rookie Matt Ryan, on the first pass of his career, threw for a touchdown against the Lions. There were some bumps along the way, but no one could have envisioned the improvement the Falcons would make in Ryan's first season -- a wild-card berth and 11-5 record -- or just how poised and collected Ryan would play. Atlanta will have to repeat its 2008 show without the benefit of sneaking up on teams in 2009. A scary thought for the NFC South is the Falcons could be even better.

Handcuffs and Committees: A Fantasy Football Spin on Backfields

LeSean McCoy Darren SprolesFor those who may use a different term or are new to fantasy football, "handcuff" is the term used when you own insurance for one of your players in the form of owning his real-life backup. It's usually a running back, but you could conceivably handcuff a quarterback. The theory is that some or all of the production is automatically replaced should you lose a high draft pick to injury, meaning you need to insure a high draft pick by grabbing his backup.

Sorting Through Contract-Year Players

Ronnie Brown Philip Rivers LenDale White contract years
I generally hate singling out an entire group of players and branding the list a group of must-have fantasy options. You know, something like "hey, go draft all the 27-year-olds in fantasy baseball," or "third-year receivers always bust out." It's just too lazy of any fantasy analyst to blanket generalize an entire group without considering the circumstances to each individual situation.

Thus, many people out there believe there is one tried and true reality in sports: Players want to get paid. Well, of course players want to get paid. In the NFL, though, players are constantly under the microscope and don't have guaranteed contracts. More matters than just being in a walk year. What we'll do, then, is take a look at the contract-year players and examine how their motivation will translate into fantasy football success.

T.O. Isn't the Only Show You Should Fear In Fantasy Football Drafts

Terrell OwensIt's time to get you ready for your upcoming fantasy football drafts. We here at Fantasy FanHouse continue to provide wall-to-wall coverage and go overtime by digging up deeper analysis.

Are you at all surprised that I even suggest you should fear drafting Terrell Owens? Well, I wanted to at least grab your attention and now that the obvious is out of the bag we can move forward. Every single summer, it's all about selective hearing and consulting our own fears. Yup, no matter what there will always be those handful of guys you wouldn't want to even face the dilemma of drafting. Whether these players are head cases, you fear they can't meet the expectations, are destined for prison, due for an ACL tear or you just plain despise them ... it's never an easy decision.

And so today, I'm taking a look at a few worries on my radar for various reasons.
