Jesse Holley Wins '4th and Long' to Nab Final Cowboys Roster Spot

Jesse Holley won '4th and Long'Jesse Holley locked up the 80th and final roster spot on the Cowboys by winning Michael Irvin's 4th and Long competition on Monday night. Holley, a wide receiver who was also a member of the Tar Heels' 2005 national championship basketball team, beat out receiver Andrew Hawkins and defensive backs Eddie Moten and Ahmaad Smith for the coveted prize.

Now I know what you might be thinking -- there is no way he sticks with the team. But for Holley, this is still a very special opportunity and he seems extremely grateful to have it.

UNC's Holley Seeks Revenge on Rutgers

North Carolina wide receiver Jesse HolleyNorth Carolina wide receiver Jesse Holley, never one to hold back an opinion, let the media know Tuesday exactly how he felt about Rutgers' lack of recruiting attention during his high school days in New Jersey:
"It does leave a bitter taste in my mouth the way Rutgers recruited me. Being that the school was only 25 minutes away and those guys didn't recruit me as heavy as other guys did ... there were top universities flying in week-in and week-out while Rutgers was a skip away and really never paid me any attention. It was like my 10th or 11th scholarship offer."

Now, I can understand Holley's ill will towards the perceived slight by hometown Rutgers, but c'mon, Jesse. Let's not give them any bulletin board material by insulting their coaching staff four days before the game. It's going to be a tough enough game even without adding fuel to the fire.

You're not T.O., Jr., so let's try holding your tongue until you can do a better job of holding onto the ball...cough...Wisconsin game...cough.

Jesse Holley Beefs Up, Talks Smack

North Carolina senior wide receiver Jesse Holley has added an additional 18 pounds of muscle to his 6'3" frame this off season, and some of that seems to be in his tongue. In a recent article by the Durham Herald-Sun regarding UNC's string of tough out of conference schedules, Holley takes a jab at NC State's an unnamed in-state rival's weak schedule providing some early season bulletin board material:

"Our out-of-conference schedule may be not as strong as it was in the past, but if you look at other teams in the ACC, other North Carolina teams -- I won't mention any names -- those guys played Citadel and school of the blind," UNC senior wide receiver Jesse Holley said. "They get three or four wins, and the next thing you know they're in a bowl game somewhere because they played two handicapped schools."

Ignoring Holley's lack of political correctness and factual inaccuracies, I find quotes like this quite a refreshing break from the sanitized "coach speak" we so often hear in the press. After all, college football is all about rivalries. And what better way to stoke the fires than by belittling the accomplishments of your heated nemesis down the road.

Thanks, Jesse. November 18th just got a little more interesting
