Jimmy Smith Arrested on Multiple Drug Charges at Jacksonville Gas Station

Jimmy Smith was arrested this afternoon at a gas station in Jacksonville, Florida, and according to a TMZ report, has been booked into a nearby detention center on four different drug charges: two felonies and two misdemeanors, in addition to driving with a suspended license.

Smith was allegedly carrying multiple illegal substances, was photographed in handcuffs at the gas station while officers escorted him to and from the bathroom and is reportedly being held on $5006 bond in downtown Jacksonville.

Jacksonville Jaguars: Chop Wood, Son

Because the NFL season never ends, we present our 2009 Offseason Roadmaps for front offices to navigate through the summer.

The Jacksonville Jaguars were arguably the biggest disappointment in 2008 (the Lions were worse, obvs, but such an enjoyably watchable train wreck that they don't count). Plenty of people had them going to the Super Bowl, and nearly everyone, after their run in the playoffs last season, thought they would be back in the postseason.

Well, um, they weren't.

Hellooooooo, Irony: Randy Moss Gets Some New Milestones on a Pass From Matt Cassel

Randy Moss is obviously a Hall of Famer, all time great wide receiver. Etc. He is glitter. He is glisten. He is awesomeness. And he is also now the holder of the following "records": 13 most receiving yards in NFL history (13,014) as he passed Jimmy Smith, who is busy not driving today I'm sure, and third most all time 100 yard receiving games in the history of the NFL.

The catch (yes, pun intended)? The deep ball -- a 58 yarder -- he caught to go over 100 for the game and to break get these milestones was a pass thrown by Matt Cassel. You know, the guy with the second cushiest job in America behind Jim Sorgi? Until today, anyway, when he had to come in and replace an injured Brady in the first quarter of the season opener.

The lesson, as always? Bill Belichick doesn't even need Tom Brady. All he needs is personnel that cares enough about winning and "TEAM" and that tries hard and focuses and keeps their mouth shut ... okay that's not the lesson. The lesson is that the Chiefs stink. And the Patriots are a very talented team and I could probably hook up with Moss for a touchdown this week. So everyone can stop freaking out. For now.

Update: Moss and Cassel love each other so much they decided to hook up for a touchdown. Awww.

The Jaguars Finally Have a Number One Receiver in Jerry Porter

There's been some tumult in the Jaguars' receiving corps lately, with Troy Williamson coming and Ernest Wilford going. And that's for good reason; those guys just haven't been very good (shockingly, though, Matt Jones is still gainfully employed). But adding former Raider Jerry Porter will help.

Porter's cost -- six years, $30 million -- is easier on the wallet than what Bernard Berrian is commanding, and it can be argued that Porter's got the better overall skillset. He'll provide a big target and decent speed for David Garrard, along with much better hands than anyone Garrard's had to throw to thus far.

Porter has a reputation as a malcontent, but in hindsight who didn't hate playing for Art Shell? Other than that one disastrous season he's been pretty productive without ever being the top guy, including 705 yards and six touchdowns last year, when he had to deal with the chaos of playing with four different quarterbacks.

Now in a much more stable situation in all aspects with the Jaguars, it's not hard seeing Porter as the first reliable receiving threat in Jacksonville since Jimmy Smith. Some would say it's about time.
