Minor League Spotlight: Phillip Wellman Is a Madman

We all remember Asheville Tourists manager Joe Mikulik's famous tirade last year. Now, we have a new entry to the Mikulik Pantheon of Ridiculous Minor League Manager Protests.

The above is a link to video of Mississippi Braves manager Phillip Wellman, who was so angry about a call yesterday he did some combination of the following things:

  • Threw third base
  • Bent down to cover home plate in dirt with his hands
  • Crawled through the infield on his stomach
  • Threw the rosin bag like it was a grenade
That, my friends, is dedication to the art of protest. Somewhere, that Buddhist dude who lit himself on fire during the Vietnam War is smiling.

Minor League Spotlight: Remembering Joe Mikulak

Minor League Spotlight is the MLB FanHouse's look into baseball's minor leagues. But you probably figured that out already.

Asheville Tourists manager Joe Mikulik, remembered best for his legendary on-field blowup a year ago, will manage his 1,000th career game later tonight (thanks to Purple Row for the tip). And yes, he still manages Asheville. So in honor of Mikulik reaching the historic milestone, I have decided to bring back one of the most incredible on-field performances you will ever see by a manager. Brace yourself for hilarity:
