Greg Blache Defends Daniel Snyder

Greg BlacheFormer Redskins player John Riggins has been increasingly critical of current Redskins owner Dan Snyder over the course of the 2009 season. Most recently he took to Showtime's Inside the NFL to air his grievances against Snyder and the Redskins.

Redskins defensive coordinator Greg Blache, who apparently is an ardent Snyder supporter, took some serious issue with Riggins and his constant criticism. So serious an issue, in fact, that the Redskins sent out an incredibly lengthy press release courtesy of Blache early Thursday afternoon.

Riggins Finds Calling, Rips 'Skins Again

I'm not sure how John Riggins would fill his days if not for the futility that Redskins football provided. He's carved out a nice little niche in a crowded DC-area media landscape.

Partly because he was an integral cog in those 'Skins teams that routinely made the playoffs in the early 1980s, but also because he's frank in his assessment of the current organization, not to mention his attention to details others might overlook. Like, say, production quality (and free-stylin').

There are no metaphorical wood piles this week, however. Nope, just Riggo on the radio diatribin' it up. Video after the jump:

Kornheiser: Snyder Is 'Embarrassed,' Thinks 'Skins Have 'Great Fans'

It's been 24 hours since the Redskins lost to the Chiefs. In that time, Jim Zorn has been stripped of play-calling duties, Bingo guru Sherm Lewis has been given the responsibility, and John Riggins is hastily producing another backwoods manifesto.

While we wait for the inevitable, Tony Kornheiser used his radio show to relay his encounter with 'Skins owner Dan Snyder during Sunday's fiasco. Mr. Tony had the pleasure of sitting in the owner's box (as much as 60 minutes of JV high school football can be deemed pleasurable).

John Riggins Takes Anti-Redskins Message to YouTube

Not only is John Riggins a speaker of the truth, he's a storyteller using both words and images to convey his message. Take the YouTube below, for example. The piles of chopped wood? Yeah, that's a metaphor for the Dan Snyder Redskins.

Riggo's first target: Vinny Cerrato. "Your head coach has basically been castrated by the guy you work for. ... Let's face it, your real, true passion is radio so I would say just go ahead and go radio full time. ... I mean, you're a great guy, Vin, but you're no GM."

Before John Riggins became a radio personality he was an NFL running back. He spent most of his career with the Redskins, earning Super Bowl XVII MVP honors. In addition to being a workhorse, he was also something of an eccentric. Which makes his public feud with current Redskins' running back Clinton Portis sort of peculiar.

Has it been 25 Years Since Riggins' Run?

It is hard to believe it has been 25 years since John Riggins broke a 4th down attempt and turned it into a game-changing touchdown.

In Super Bowl XVII, the Redskins trailed the Miami Dolphins 17-13 in the 4th quarter. Washington was faced with a 4th-and-1 on the Dolphins' 43-yd line. The play: 70 chip.

Riggins took the handoff and hit the left side of the line, gaining the first down. However, he was met by Miami's Don McNeal not soon after. Riggo's legs kept churning, McNeal couldn't hang on, fell and the rest is Super Bowl lore.

Washington took the lead, 20-17, tacked on Charlie Brown TD reception on for good measure, and won the Redskins' first championship since 1942.

B. Lloyd: From Principal's Office to the Gridiron

Brandon LloydDo you remember what you wanted to be when you were in kindergarten? When you were asked, did you reply with the standard answers of lawyer, doctor or firefighter? Did your answer get you sent to the principal's office?

Brandon Lloyd was sent to the principals office for his answer, only it ended up helping him realize his dream of becoming a professional athlete. And two decades later, he's a budding star with the Washington Redskins known for his athleticism, his high energy and his locker room presence.

Lloyd was brought to Washington through a trade with the San Francisco 49ers to add some firepower to the missing Redskins passing game. With fellow newcomer Antwaan Randle El, the two have been greeted with open arms with high expectations. Already in the preseason he's grabbed a couple of passes generating excitement of what he brings to the team.

In addition to catching passes, he's a singer who has already recorded a hip-hop demo. But last year after kicking destroyed by Washington while still with the 49ers, what was he listening to on the way back to the bay? Willie Nelson. His personality is a welcomed addition, something Joe Gibbs seems to attract dating back to John Riggins. Imagine that: a locker room with Captain Chaos, Kid Bro Sweets and B. Lloyd.
