Stream Team: Petco Pitcher

Looking to cycle spot-starters each day? Check out the Stream Team, where we tab pitchers that are likely to help you in your quest for fantasy gold.

Petco Park is one of our favorite ballparks in which to stream pitchers, as it generally has a great effect on pitcher's numbers, turning great pitchers into superstars and mediocre pitchers into world beaters. Thus, it's not too surprising to see San Diego pitcher Kevin Correia with some great stats this season. Correia currently has a 3.89 ERA and 1.31 WHIP this season (along with 12 wins), but there's actually several reasons to like him as a spot starter tomorrow.

Roto Rush: Tiny Tim Apparently Healthy

Tim LincecumPoppin' out of the box scores and right into your cubicle, the Roto Rush is your double espresso shot of fantasy baseball advice every weekday.

After Tim Lincecum missed a start, fantasy owners still in the championship race had to have been holding their collective breath. Now is not the time to lose your staff ace. His next start would be a test of his health. Last year's NL Cy Young winner took the hill Monday night against the wild card-leading Rockies, and he passed the test with flying colors. While the 4 free passes were a bit disappointing, Lincecum more than made up for that with a win, 11 strikeouts and just 1 earned run in 7 innings of work. He's back, and he'll be a force the rest of the way (now if only someone could convince him to get a freaking haircut).

Someone at our weekly Friday chats was hoping I could guarantee a quality start from Tom Gorzelanny yesterday. While there are never guarantees in fantasy baseball, I was confident he'd put up a great stat-line. He didn't put up a quality start (in which you need to go six innings), but to be fair, that wasn't his fault. Gorzelanny was pulled after just 83 pitches, but he was still able to strike out eight guys in five innings of one-run ball while getting a win. For the Team, we'll take that every time. We backed Mike Pelfrey today.

Stream Team: How About Both?

Through six innings, Jeff Niemann was rolling along to another quality start, having allowed just a solo HR in the first. After giving up another HR in the seventh, Niemann put two runners on base before Tampa Bay went to the bullpen. Both runners ended up coming around to score, giving our pitchers a disappointing four-run outing in 6.1 innings. With five strikeouts and only one walk allowed yesterday, Niemann's final line wasn't indicative of his strong overall performance against the Mariners.

Today, we have Mat Latos taking the mound for our Team against the Mets. Yesterday, Kevin Correia went six innings against those Mets without allowing an earned run.

Stream Team: July 7th

With one week in the books, the Stream Team has a 40% success rate, but we're going to need to be much better to erase those stink-bombs thrown up on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Our first two streamers are back on the hill tomorrow, but I would avoid Jordan Zimmermann in Colorado and Kevin Correia away from Petco Park. Today's best bet to help is the $126 million man, Barry Zito.

Stream Team: Indepedence Day

After yesterday's start, Kevin Correia provided us with the perfect example of how streaming spot-starters can blow up in your face. However, if you keep plugging away and consistently make the smart decisions, you can overcome those inevitable stinkers. Don't be surprised if Correia is dropped by many owners today -- if so, he still makes a worthwhile pickup if you need some pitching help.

Yesterday, I tabbed Jordan Zimmermann as a good spot-start option for your teams, pegging him for six innings pitched, two earned runs allowed or less, and six strikeouts or more. Little did I know how prescient that prediction would be -- Zimmermann hit those numbers exactly in his afternoon start. Let's mark down the first member of the Stream Team as a success, and move on to tomorrow's best bet.

Fantasy Baseball Cram Session: Peavy's Pain and Stars to Acquire Dirt Cheap

Kevin Correia Michael BournIn this week's Fantasy Baseball Cram Session Tom Herrera and I spent some time talking about pitchers on most waiver wires. Jordan Zimmerman and Kevin Correia are two of the better options that we mention. We also spent some time on the Pain Train talking injuries to players like Jake Peavy, Jose Reyes and Grady Sizemore. And finally in Fantasy Felony we give a few of our picks to help you out in baseball's second half.
