The Once-Over: Week 6

With attention spans dwindling, we forgo full game-by-game previews to give you the essentials you need to know about every contest this glorious NFL weekend. We call it The Once-Over.

Eagles Release Jeff Garcia, Bring Back Jeremiah Trotter

Jeff GarciaComing off an easy victory in Kansas City, the Eagles have made a pair of roster moves involving big names. Jeff Garcia, who was brought in as quarterback depth after Donovan McNabb fell injured, has now been released. In a corresponding move, the Eagles have brought back linebacker Jeremiah Trotter for a third stint in Philadelphia.

The move to release Garcia isn't all that shocking. The Eagles lost McNabb after Week 1. At the time, Michael Vick was still suspended and Kevin Kolb had never started an NFL game. Now, Vick is back and Kolb became the first player in NFL history to throw for over 300 yards in each of his first two career starts. Plus, with a bye this week, it's likely McNabb will be ready to start in Week 5. There was simply no need to carry four quarterbacks.

Studs and Duds, Week 3: MJD's World

Each week in the NFL, there are players that impress and players that distress. One week a certain quarterback might toss four touchdowns and run around with his finger in the air while the next he's laying on his back, holding his facemask as the other team returns one of his three interceptions for the game-winning score. With that in mind, here's Studs and Duds.

Waiver Wire Wonders: Week 3

Fred TaylorWeeding through those unwieldy waiver wires requires a keen eye and a quick trigger. Thus, Waiver Wire Wonders provides a weekly snapshot of players worthy of consideration who should be available on a good portion of league waiver wires.

It never ceases to amaze me that every week there is so much material for our Waiver Wire Wonders column. It just goes to show how fast things change in the NFL. A star player gets injured after one carry; a longtime underachiever finally earns his stripes; and the worst franchise in NFL history wins a game on a solid performance by the No. 2 wide receiver. Nothing stays put in the NFL for long, so there's no time for slacking off. Week 3 offers up a whole new round of hot pickups.

Fantasy Football Sunday Wrap: A Pierre Thomas Sighting

Sunday Evening Wrap checks out players who increased or decreased their value during the Sunday afternoon games.

Riser of the Week: Pierre Thomas was the apple of many a fantasy owner's eye heading into the season, but he was hampered by a knee injury for the first two weeks. Sunday, he reintroduced himself to the fantasy football world -- so let's hope you held onto him if you drafted him. Thomas ran through the Buffalo defense for 126 yards on just 14 carries, scoring two touchdowns. The Saints do have two tough matchups coming (Jets and Giants), but, long-term, Pierre is going to be a solid RB2.

Michael Vick Relatively Quiet in Win

All that talk about the Philadelphia Eagles using Michael Vick in the wildcat may have been just that. While Vick was eligible, active and playing against the Kansas City Chiefs Sunday, the Eagles didn't use him a whole lot.

Instead, rookie LeSean McCoy was been the star of the wildcat, and it worked pretty well. The Eagles took a 24-7 lead into halftime, rolled to a 34-14 win, and did most of that while riding McCoy's running and the arm of Kevin Kolb.

Pocket Presence: Kolb, Garcia Wait for McNabb; Quinn Still Shaky

It's often said that a team with two quarterbacks really doesn't have any. With that spirit in mind, FanHouse will keep you updated weekly on NFL teams facing potential quarterback controversies.

Things are looking interesting in Philadelphia, although Donovan McNabb can come back and ruin all the fun. Meanwhile, there appears to be no end in sight to the situation in Cleveland, where the Browns have looked generally awful when they have the ball.

Eagles' QB Situation Stable (For Now) With Kolb as Fill-In Starter

Kevin Kolb is taking control of the Eagles' crazy QB situation -- for now. After watching the painful tape of Sunday's loss to the Saints, Eagles coach Andy Reid decided Kevin Kolb's performance in his first start as an NFL quarterback was even better than he first thought.

"I thought he did some good things," Reid said Monday. "Can he learn from the interception on the second series of the second half? Yeah, he'll learn on that. But I thought overall he did a pretty good job, after having an opportunity to evaluate it."

Waiver Wire Wonders: The Week of the Random in Fantasy Football

While Week 1 of the NFL season revealed some clear rising stars and glaring adds for fantasy rosters, Week 2 consists largely of head-scratching maybes. Call it the week of the random. Still, several players widely available on the waiver wires made breakout statements this week, so study up and get to know these names.

Kevin Kolb the Least of Philly's Problems

Kevin Kolb and the Eagles looked like a disjointed mess Sunday against the Saints.PHILADELPHIA -- Andy Reid did his best to make sure Kevin Kolb didn't have to own this. The Eagles' coach knows how tight the spot is in which Kolb finds himself. And after the Eagles got crushed 48-22 by Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints on Sunday in Kolb's first career start as an NFL quarterback, Reid made sure everybody knew it wasn't Kolb's fault. He spoke to his team, delivering a stern speech whose central message was, "Nobody goes undefeated -- put this game behind you and forget about it," then he walked out to face the media and did what a coach is supposed to do. He blamed himself.

"I have to make sure this thing is right, and it wasn't right today -- any phase of it," Reid said. "It was an absolutely horrendous performance. This is my football team and I have to make sure they play better than that. I will make sure that happens."

The fact is, he has a lot of work to do, because the Eagles are a mess right now. And while that mess may start with the confused and messy quarterback situation, it doesn't end there.
