Disorderly Conduct Chargers Against Koby Clemens Dropped by Prosecutor

It's been quite some time since the Clemens family got some good news, unless you consider sympathy from an unfamous "singer" good news. Well, today they finally heard something positive. Roger Clemens' son, Koby Clemens was arrested on August 31st for disorderly conduct stemming from a bar fight of sorts. The charges against Koby and his friend, Mark Ori, have been dropped by Salem County Prosecutor Thomas E. Bowers.
A spokesman for Bowers said the prosecutor agreed to drop the case against Clemens and Ori after their attorneys said they would perform community service. The two athletes spoke to four student groups Thursday in the Salem area about alcohol, drugs and peer pressure.
We can begin to draw some reasonable conclusions from the situation now, especially since the other man who was arrested with Clemens and Ori, Jimmy Goethals, is still being charged with assault and battery.

Sounds like Goethals got himself into a little scrap and his two friends tried to help him out of it. The cops show up, arrest everyone involved in the fracas, and the public wants to start calling one of them a "punk" because his Dad is one.

Koby Clemens Shows Classy Side, Gets Arrested in Bar Fight

Any number of things could have started it. "Don't you dare say that 'bout my pappy!" "No one needs a no-hitter for the Hall of Fame!" "Steroids were legal in the 80's!" Or maybe Koby Clemens is just a bit of a steakhead.

I would imagine, though, that being Roger Clemens' son probably had something to do with being involved in a bar fight in Salem, Va., this weekend.
Clemens and Ori were charged with disorderly conduct and Goethals with assault and battery. All three were taken to the Roanoke County-Salem Jail before being released on bond, according to a news release from the Salem police.

[...] According to the news release, police were dispatched to a disturbance in the restaurant's parking lot at 2 a.m. on Sunday and, upon their arrival, found approximately 50 people in the lot.

The release does not describe any of the events leading to the arrests. It states only that Clemens and Ori were arrested on the scene and that Goethals was charged "after an employee of the restaurant obtained a warrant for his arrest" from the Roanoke County/Salem magistrate's office.
Naturally, no one is commenting. But it's odd that Clemens didn't have anything to do with the actual disorderly charge, since it seems pretty likely that he would have been one of the ones throwing down. Especially considering the Times note that he's been "catching catcalls from fans and media as his father contends with allegations of cheating on his wife, Debbie, and using performance-enhancing drugs during his baseball career."

Considering there's a 90% chance that the fight stemmed from someone verbally assaulting Koby, I'll be interested to hear what Roger has to say about this. And pretty surprised if this is the last time something like this happens.

Koby Clemens Lets Us Know How Rocket's Problems Are Affecting His Family

Bible readers are no doubt familiar with Ezekiel 18:20 which reads, in part, that "the son shall not bear the iniquity of the father." Human nature, however, doesn't take it as easy on the family of those whose relatives run afoul of the law or the court of public opinion. It's a lesson that Koby Clemens has learned a lot about in recent days.

His father, Roger Clemens, was included in the Mitchell Report and his alleged extramarital affairs have become the topic of conversation around the country. That includes the crowds the younger Clemens plays in front of as a member of Houston's Class A affiliate in Salem, Virginia. He spoke with the New York Post about the difficulties of the past few months.
"I can say that there is no person that could say that they could possibly ever have a better dad than I've had. My dad's always been there for me. My dad's done so much for other people. That's what really fires me up and (ticks) me off."
There's not much to add to what Koby says. He loves his father and supports him through difficult times. We should all hope for the same. It would be nice, if incredibly naive, to think that Koby would be able to just focus on playing for the Avalanche and making his way toward the majors. Because of his last name, though, that's not going to happen. A shame but probably inevitable given the way his father's life is playing out in public view.
