Forney Gets a Wake-Up Call

It appears that the Falcons are trying to light a fire on Kynan Forney.

That's the most logical explanation for why Forney is working out with the second team this offseason while Harvey Dahl is taking snaps as a starter. Forney has started 89 games for the Falcons, which makes him one of the few long-term regulars still left in Atlanta. Dahl, not only hasn't started a game, he hasn't even been able to stick on an active roster in any of his three NFL seasons.

This Atlanta Journal-Constitution story says that offensive line coach Paul Bordreau likes Dahl's hot-tempered approach and his mean streak. And it is true that there have been other examples of practice squadders turning into NFL starters, but there also is a reason that Dahl has failed to stick on a roster in three tries. So it still seems like a longshot that Dahl will be starting when the season begins.

But it does mean that after a pretty disappointing 2007 season, Forney is on notice that he better pick it up if he wants to be in the starting lineup come September.

Petrino Can't Get Along With Anybody

Falcons coach Bobby Petrino is not a coach who can do a lot with another coach's guys. So for good or bad, a lot of this year's team won't 2008.

But here's the big question, is it a better idea to dump the players or get rid of the coach who can't win without "his guys"?

To review, here is just a small sampling of the guys who aren't Petrino's guys:

1) Cornerback DeAngelo Hall. He's only the team's best player. But Petrino doesn't like his mouth, and the two have sparred this season so there's a good chance that Hall will be leaving either this offseason in a trade or next offseason as a free agent. Of course, elite cover cornerbacks are much harder to find than unproven ex-college coaches in the NFL, but that's the Falcons choice.

Atlanta Falcons @ Buffalo Bills: Week Two Preseason Injury Report

Taking into account that it's the preseason, many of the players sitting on the sidelines tonight would normally be on the field if it was a meaningful game. With that said, I'm sure most fans would like to know who they should expect to see this evening. For that reason, I've done by best to create an accurate injury report -- official reports are not posted until week one of the regular season.

Atlanta Falcons:

Out: Running back Warrick Dunn (back), tight end Alge Crumpler (knee) and defensive tackle Rod Coleman (thigh).

Questionable: Linebacker Demorrio Williams (pectoral), running back Jerious Norwood (illness) and wide receiver Dante Hall (back).

Probable: Guard Kynan Forney (back).

If you notice anyone missing on this injury report, I encourage you to let me know. Leave me a comment or shoot me an e-mail and I will promptly update the report. Again, this is strictly for the fans (see: yours truly) who want to know what players will be on the field tonight.
