Lavar Johnson, the Strikeforce heavyweight fighter who was shot multiple times during a family reunion on July 4th weekend, is recovering at a local Bakersfield, Calif., hospital and is expected to be released "soon." A representative of Zinkin Entertainment, the management company which represents Johnson, informed FanHouse of the news Tuesday.While Johnson's injuries were once considered life-threatening, FanHouse has learned that there is now hope that he will be able to resume his MMA career once he fully recovers.

Strikeforce director of communications Mike Afromowitz confirmed with FanHouse that Johnson was injured in the shooting, but had no further information regarding his current state. The Bakersfield Police Department would not update Johnson's condition when contacted Sunday night.
