Nothing Voluntary About Workouts, Says Former College Players

Martellus BennettDallas Cowboys tight end Martellus Bennett certainly doesn't speak for everyone who has donned a college football uniform.

But it's a good bet the outspoken second-year pro echoes the sentiment of a large population of current and former major college football players when he questions the motives of those who have accused Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez and his staff of excessive workouts.

Current and former Michigan Wolverines players have told the Detroit Free Press that Rodriguez and his staff often held them for 12 hours on Sundays following a game and that summer voluntary workouts were not voluntary at all. Some ask, what's new?

Roy Williams and His Tight End-Like Speed Not Happy With Madden Rating

Roy Williams is the first to admit that he didn't have a great 2008 season. Partly because he arrived in Dallas midway through the year, but also because his roles wasn't well defined. Terrell Owens was the team's No. 1 receiver (on paper, anyway), Jason Witten was Tony Romo's favorite target, and Marion Barber spearheaded the running game.

So it's no surprise that Williams didn't contribute much. Expectations are different this year, though; T.O. is gone and Roy will be Romo's primary downfield threat. At least that's the plan. Not everybody has full confidence in that eventuality. In fact, the programming nerds at EA Sports don't have much faith in Williams' ability to get open.

Mock Talk: FanHouse's Fantasy Football Mock Draft for 12-Team Leagues

This offseason, FanHouse and the Fantasy Football Cafe are getting together to do some mocking. We're bringing you a series of mock drafts to help you prepare for your fantasy football season. Because when it comes to your fantasy football draft, there's no such thing as being too prepared.

A few weeks ago, we came at you with a 10-team mock draft. Today, we'll check out the results of a recent 12-team mock draft completed by FanHouse writers and Cafe veterans on August 10. For our mock league, you must start one QB, two RBs, three WRs, one TE, one K, and one DEF, with six bench slots available for your discretion. The scoring rules: 20 passing yards per point, 4 points per passing TD, -2 points per interception, 10 rushing/receiving yards per point, 6 points per rushing/receiving TD, standard kicking and defensive points.

Fantasy Football Cut-N-Go: Devin Hester's Stock Rising

Devin HesterCut-N-Go is Fantasy Football FanHouse's daily gathering of links from around the web, covering the goings-on in NFL Training Camp which have an impact on fantasy value.

Obviously, with training camp comes a certain level of optimism surrounding every team. At Bears camp, the entire offense has been a veritable hype machine, due mostly to the acquisition of pro bowl quarterback Jay Cutler.

Devin Hester is getting rave reviews from every source who has seen camp as well. Most recently, Dan Pompei of the Chicago Tribune penned an entire column gushing about the progress of Hester as a receiver and the prospects of him becoming a legitimate star receiver. And he hasn't always been a Hester-at-wideout fan.

Searching for the Breakout Tight End

In 2008, it was Visanthe Shiancoe with nearly 600 yards and seven TDs, John Carlson with over 600 yards and five TDs, and Anthony Fasano with about 450 yards and seven TDs.

In 2007, it was Donald Lee with 575 yards and six TDs, Heath Miller with over 550 yards and seven TDs, and Owen Daniels with over 750 yards and three TDs.

Year after year, new tight ends emerge from the late rounds of fantasy drafts and from the waiver wire to become top-10 options and every-week starters in fantasy leagues. If you're like me, you eschew early-round and mid-round TEs for a bargain-bin sleeper on draft day, because there will be a few starters that rise from the depths of obscurity. There always are. Today, I'll throw five TEs your way that didn't make our preseason Top 10, but could become fantasy starters this season.

Below Baylor? For Mike Sherman, Rebuilding Texas A&M Is One Tough Gig

Mike ShermanGiven an audience, second-year Texas A&M coach Mike Sherman will try his best to convince everyone in the room the Aggies are headed in the right direction.

But do you believe the veteran coach?

The mountain of damaging evidence certainly begs for skepticism. The Aggies, believed to be on a steady decline since a couple years before the program's all-time winningest coach R.C. Slocum was shoved aside after the 2002 season, have fallen way behind Big 12 South powers Texas and Oklahoma and even now trail -- gasp -- Baylor.

Marty B Gives Tour of Cowboys Stadium

I feel confident in writing that Cowboys safety Pat Watkins won't be up for any awards for his camera work, but MartyBTv isn't about the cinematography. It's about seeing the world through the eyes Martellus Bennett, the team's second-year tight end and locker room personality.

On Tuesday, Marty B. toured Jones Mahal for the first time, and had the forethought to document the event for the rest of us. Good times ensued.

Video after the jump, highlights below:

Martellus Bennett Talks Blogging, Writing a Children's Book

Martellus Bennett, if you don't know, is the Cowboys' second-year tight end who is backing up Jason Witten, considered one of the best in the game.

But this isn't about football. This is about Bennett and what he's doing right now. He blogs on Twitter, MySpace, Facebook pages, the whole deal.

Bennett even blogs for the Dallas Morning News. Here's a little Q&A with Bennett to get you through the day.

For Pro Athletes, Social Networking Is Taking Off

It was a simple question toward two different NFL players who responded the same. Why do you Twitter, Facebook, Yardbarker, MySpace?

"To get in contact and reach out to another level of fans I would never get to connect with," Terrell Owens of the Bills said. "I had Myspace, Facebook, Twitter and its an interactive way for me to connect with all my fans."

Said Cowboys tight end Martellus Bennett: "I like to have fun. It's a chance for me to interact with people I don't know, which is the best thing ever. It's pretty fun. The blogging I do is a chance for me to express my mind."

Martellus Bennett Talks Female Flatulence in His Latest Blogging Effort

Martellus Bennett has a blog at the Dallas Morning-News' Cowboy Insider. It's becoming a pretty common trend, really, seeing athletes blogging. But most of them are usually pretty tame. Not Bennett's.

In his latest entry for the DMN, he discusses female flatulence, presumably having watched South Park this week. I wish I was kidding. And, obviously, some potentially offensive language after the jump.
