What is with these high school coaches lately? They're either marrying their pregnant 16-year old players, running corrupt programs while getting reporters fired for doing their jobs, or now they're being arrested for sexually assaulting their own players. You may remember Mel Hall, but odds are you don't. He played in the Majors from 1981 to 1992 as a member of the Cubs, Indians, Yankees and Giants. These days he's a girls basketball coach in North Richland Hills, Texas where he was arrested on Thursday.
The 46-year-old Hall was released from jail Friday on $35,000 bail. He was arrested the previous day on charges of sexual assault of a child under 17 and aggravated sexual assault of a child under 14, police said Saturday. The second charge carries a possible life sentence because of the age of the alleged victim.Hall could not be reached for comment as all the phone numbers the AP could find under his name were either incorrect or disconnected.
Police are continuing to look for more victims on Hall's team, and possibly from the baseball camp he organized in the area.
