Strikeforce Main Event Breakdown: Fedor Emelianenko vs. Brett Rogers

Fedor EmelianenkoIn August of 1995, Sports Illustrated's Tom Verducci penned a feature about pitcher Greg Maddux entitled "Once in a Lifetime." Wearing an Atlanta Braves uniform, Maddux also graced the cover of SI in that issue. The photo showed a focused Maddux a nanosecond after delivering a pitch. The caption read "The Greatest Pitcher You'll Ever See."

One line in the story has stuck with me for all these years: "Did you see van Gogh paint? No, you could respond, but I saw Greg Maddux pitch." Maddux, of course, has nothing to do with MMA (although he has attended at least one UFC event), but the premise of the story has everything to do with Saturday night.

Fedor Emelianenko is MMA's van Gogh, its immeasurably gifted genius, and Saturday, he will be fighting Brett Rogers in front of the largest American audience ever to witness him.

Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira Wants Brock Lesnar or Frank Mir Next

Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira says he's ready to fight anytime, and hopes to fight for the title or avenge his most recent loss if he has his way.

"I want Brock Lesnar for sure," said Nogueira, who rebounded from a UFC 92 loss to Frank Mir by defeating Randy Couture by unanimous decision at UFC 102 in August. "I want to fight him. But I would fight Frank Mir also. That's my second choice."

Lesnar is scheduled to fight Shane Carwin in November, but Nogueira is clearly still a top-five UFC heavyweight, and fresh off his teammate Junior Dos Santos' dominating performance over Mirko Cro Cop at UFC 103, Nogueira told FanHouse that he's re-energized in his chase for UFC gold.

Mirko Cro Cop Suspended Indefinitely Following UFC 103 Loss

In the medical suspensions released by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation for Combative Sports, Mirko Cro Cop has been suspended indefinitely following his loss to Junior dos Santos at UFC 103 in Dallas.

Cro Cop was battered by dos Santos in a flurry in the third round until he verbally submitted due to issues seeing. Cro Cop was sent to the hospital after the fight for further evaluation on his eyes.

Dos Santos Hopes to Follow Teammates Silva, Nogueira as Champ

DALLAS -- With a small sample size of fights to analyze, it's sometimes difficult to accurately assess whether a young fighter is a contender or pretender. But in the case of Junior Dos Santos, it seems safe to say he falls into the first category.

The Brazilian striker looked crisp and powerful in his demolition of Mirko Cro Cop. The Croatian verbally submitted after complaining of vision problems, but the outcome was virtually assured by then. Dos Santos was simply bigger, faster and better.

Vitor Belfort's KO Win Could Vault Him to Title Match With Anderson Silva

Rich FranklinDALLAS – While Rich Franklin will likely never say it, he didn't want a fight in September, let alone one against Vitor Belfort. Franklin would have preferred some time off, but the need for a headliner for UFC 103 pushed him into making the decision to participate.

Franklin may be a company man, but that loyalty – along with Belfort's considerable skills – cost Franklin, as Belfort returned to the UFC with a shocking first-round TKO over the ex-UFC middleweight champion in front of 17,428 at the American Airlines Center.

UFC 103: Junior 'Cigano' dos Santos Beats Mirko 'Cro Cop' Filipovic

In a generational heavyweight battle at UFC 103, young up-and-comer Junior dos Santos showed that he has officially arrived, defeating MMA legend Mirko Cro Cop by third-round TKO.

Mirko Cro Cop Can't Figure Out Why Fedor Emelianenko Ducked the UFC

Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic uttered the phrase "I don't know" more than a dozen times Tuesday afternoon when asked for his thoughts about why Fedor Emelianenko declined to sign with the UFC, saying over and over again that he can't figure out what is preventing his old Pride rival from fighting in the world's biggest mixed martial arts promotion.

Cro Cop, who lost to Fedor four years ago in Pride in a battle that was widely regarded at the time as featuring the two best heavyweights in MMA, said he couldn't come up with a logical explanation for why Fedor would prefer to fight in Strikeforce/M-1 Global co-promotions, rather than in the UFC.

Five Things We Learned From UFC 102

Todd DuffeeExperts who study boring things that aim to depress us say you can't learn anything watching TV. I say "bollocks" (which is a word I learned watching the BBC). Watching UFC 102 with a finely attuned eye, there was much to be learned.

Here's my list of five things I surmised from Saturday night's fights.
