MMA Pound-for-Pound Top 10 Poll: Fedor, Silva Tied; GSP a Close Third

Who's the best pound-for-pound fighter in mixed martial arts? According to Yahoo's latest poll of MMA journalists, it's a tie between Affliction heavyweight star Fedor Emelianenko and UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva, with UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre barely behind them in third place.

MMA Top 10 Pound-for-Pound: Fedor? Silva? GSP? Who's on Top?

The UFC has spent the last year really hammering home the idea that Anderson Silva is the best pound-for-pound MMA fighter in the world. So it was a little surprising that at the end of the UFC 94 broadcast, the UFC's in-house announcers were referring to Georges St. Pierre as the world's best MMA fighter.

It was also a little surprising that UFC commentator Joe Rogan even mentioned the name of Fedor Emelianenko when he addressed the subject of the top pound-for-pound fighters. So who's really on top? My own list is below.

MMA Pound-for-Pound Top 10: Fedor Emelianenko Moves to the Top

The last time I ranked the top 10 pound-for-pound fighters in MMA, I had UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva first and Affliction heavyweight Fedor Emelianenko second. Last night Fedor changed my mind.

Even though Andrei Arlovski was actually winning the fight for the first three minutes, Fedor's one-punch knockout was so devastating that I think he deserves to be called the best fighter in MMA right now, in any weight class.

I still think it's close between Fedor and Silva, with Miguel Torres not too far behind, and it's even possible that I'll change my mind again next week if either B.J. Penn or Georges St. Pierre does something incredible when they meet at UFC 94. But for now, Fedor is at the top of my pound-for-pound list, which is below.
