Reversing Course, Mirko Cro Cop Re-Signs With UFC

LAS VEGAS -- It seemed after last month that Mirko Cro Cop walked out of the UFC for good, napalming his relationship with the organization on the way out the door.

Not so fast.

The Croatian heavyweight star has apparently signed a three-fight deal with the company, Zuffa co-owner Lorenzo Fertitta told UFC fans during a question-and-answer session during Saturday's pre-UFC 100 Fan Expo.

In Cro Cop-UFC Drama, Only Man With Legit Gripe Is Todd Duffee

The MMA soap opera of the moment seems to be whether or not Mirko Cro Cop has left the UFC to sign with DREAM. UFC President Dana White says he did; a translation of a Croatian newspaper story says he did not.

One day in the near future we'll know the truth, but lost in the shuffle of whether or not White got screwed is Todd Duffee.

"Who is Todd Duffee?" you might ask.

Mirko Cro Cop Filipovic's return to the UFC was a short one. After beating Mostapha Al-Turk at UFC 99 Saturday in Germany, Cro Cop left the UFC to return to the Japanese Dream MMA promotion.

UFC 99: Mostapha Al-Turk Says He Can Beat Mirko Cro Cop Filipovic

The big news in the UFC this week was that Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic will return to the Octagon next month at UFC 99. His opponent, Mostapha Al-Turk, was mostly an afterthought.

But could Al-Turk pull the upset? After all, the 34-year-old Cro Cop is hardly the Cro Cop of the old Pride days. He went 1-2 when fighting in the UFC in 2007, and when he returned to Japan in 2008 he didn't appear as strong or explosive as he once did. He's also been plagued by injuries.

Al-Turk wants everyone to know that he's ready.

UFC 92 Morning After: Mir-Lesnar II Will Be a Great Heavyweight Showdown

How good was Frank Mir's 2008?

Mir, the new UFC interim heavyweight champion, had two fights this year. In one, he beat the biggest, strongest fighter to come along in MMA in years, Brock Lesnar. In the other, he finished the hardest fighter to stop in MMA history, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira.

And it took Mir less than nine minutes, total, to beat them both.

Cheick Kongo: I'm Disappointed Brock Lesnar Got the UFC Heavyweight Title So Fast

Cheick Kongo, who will fight Mostapha Al-Turk at UFC 92, says he was disappointed with how quickly Brock Lesnar got a heavyweight title shot:

"I have nothing to say about his performance," Kongo said of Lesnar. "He trains hard. (But) I'm disappointed because Lesnar got the title so fast. I try to get this but most of the time there's someone keeping me back. ... I don't think I'm a star, you know, or a super fighter, I just try to get better, I just try to get this title you know. That is why I am here."
