Marquez Fights for Mexico, History

In an amount of time smaller than any second could be split, and faster than even he can bob, weave and hurl a counterpunch, Juan Manuel Marquez leaps to an answer with enough enthusiasm you'd be forgiven for thinking someone had just asked a kid to the prom.

Boxing Live Blog: Joel Casamayor-Juan Manuel Marquez Lightweight Title Fight

Welcome to the FanHouse live blog of tonight's lightweight title fight between Joel Casamayor and Juan Manuel Marquez.

UPDATE: The other lightweight title fight, Nate Campbell vs. Joan Guzman, has been canceled.

The Casamayor-Marquez pay-per-view show and our live blog will begin at 9 p.m. Eastern.

Joan Guzman Gets Sick After Failing to Make Weight, Fight With Nate Campbell Is Off

Joan Guzman failed to make weight yesterday for tonight's scheduled lightweight title fight with Nate Campbell, and after Guzman got sick in a last-ditch effort to dehydrate himself for the weigh-in, the fight has been called off, FightHype is reporting.

Guzman weighed in at 138.5 pounds, an astonishing 3.5 pounds over the lightweight limit, made all the more shocking by the fact that Guzman had actually moved up in weight class to take the fight against Campbell, who is the WBA, IBF and WBO lightweight champ.

Pulling out of a fight at the last minute like this ought to result in Guzman facing severe discipline from the Mississippi boxing commission. It's not clear where Campbell will go from here; the best-case scenario for boxing fans would be fore Campbell to fight the winner of the other lightweight title fight tonight, Joel Casamayor vs. Juan Manuel Marquez. We're live blogging that fight here.

Showtime's 'Hits & Chicks' Boxing and MMA Commercial Is an Insult to Fans' Intelligence

This is just stupid:

That's the "Hits & Chicks" commercial that Showtime has posted to its official YouTube sports channel, and it's embarrassing to those of us who love boxing and mixed martial arts.

Joan Guzman vs. Nate Campbell: Everyone's Betting Against the Champ, Part 2

On Saturday night we'll be treated two to big boxing matches, in which lightweight champions are taking on guys who are moving up in weight class from junior lightweight. And in both cases, the champ is a significant underdog.

We already noted that everyone is betting against Ring Magazine lightweight champion Joel Casamayor in his fight with Juan Manuel Marquez. But the other lightweight champion -- WBA, IBF and WBO title holder Nate Campbell -- is also an underdog in his fight against Joan Guzman, an undefeated junior lightweight who's moving up for the first time.

Next for Manny Pacquiao: Nate Campbell, Edwin Valero, Joel Casamayor, Ricky Hatton?

We're less than 12 hours removed from Manny Pacquiao's knockout of David Diaz, and already the question must be asked: Who does Pacquiao fight next? Here are a few possibilities:

Nate Campbell: This would be an excellent fight, with the winner potentially unifying the lightweight title belts of all four sanctioning bodies.

Edwin Valero: Pacquiao's promoter, Bob Arum, says Pacquiao will stay at lightweight to defend the WBC title he won last night, and Valero is the one name he mentioned as a possible opponent.

Joel Casamayor: The Ring Magazine lightweight champ faces Juan Manuel Marquez in September; if he wins he'd be a natural opponent for Pacquiao, but probably not until early next year.

Humberto Soto: On last night's undercard, Soto lost a dubious disqualification after dominating Francisco Lorenzo.

Amir Khan: Has been discussed as a possible opponent, but probably isn't ready for Pacquiao.

Ricky Hatton: It would be a huge fight, if Pacquiao is willing to move up in weight class again. This won't happen in 2008 but could happen in 2009.
