NFL Owners Could Expand 'Rooney Rule' to Front Office Hirings

Commissioner Roger Goodell called the NFL owners meetings very productive, as new TV deals were approved and the 2013 Super Bowl was awarded to New Orleans.FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- One of the issues NFL owners discussed before wrapping up their meetings this morning was expanding the so-called "Rooney Rule" to the hiring of general managers as well as coaches. The rule, established in 2003, currently requires teams to interview at least one minority candidate for vacant head coaching positions or face a fine. The change would apply the same rule to vacant GM positions.

Commissioner Roger Goodell said the change could be implemented "almost immediately," though he first needs to speak with Steelers owner Dan Rooney, the father of the rule and the chair of the league's diversity committee. Rooney did not attend these meetings because he is currently undergoing the training required of him to become U.S. ambassador to Ireland per an appointment by President Barack Obama.

FanHouse at the NFL Owners Meetings

This is a picture I took from my lunch table at a Mexican joint a few blocks from the Rtiz-Carlton Fort Lauderdale, where NFL owners are meeting this week.FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- Coming to you live from the beach, where NFL owners begin gathering tonight at the Ritz-Carlton for two days of meetings. I'll be posting developments as they come up, but in the meantime here's a quick rundown on what these guys will be discussing this week in between their regular checks of Drew Rosenhaus' twitter updates:

-The 2013 Super Bowl. Sometime Tuesday, the league will announce the site of the 2013 game. New Orleans is the favorite, but South Florida and Arizona remain in the running until somebody tells us otherwise. The weather here was gorgeous today, but it's clouding up and thunderstorms are forecast for the next couple of days. Such things are unlikely to seriously hurt South Florida's case, but it can't help. The next three Super Bowls are set for Miami, Arlington and Indianapolis.

Lawsuit: Buccaneers Exec, Wife Damaged Rented House

Angela Glazer, the woman you see in the photo here, is the wife of Buccaneers Vice President Joel Glazer. She is, according to the Palm Beach Post, "model-material." She's also, according to the team's web site, "A licensed psychologist with a Masters and PhD in clinical psychology."

The Glazers would seem to have it all, but according to a lawsuit, they're not the best of house guests. The suit alleges they did the following damage to an $8.5 million house they were renting:

[The owner] is now suing the Glazers in a Palm Beach County court. He wants the $300,000 back rent plus damages. Those also included: the removal and improper storage of 14 rare Oriental rugs and wall-to-wall carpeting; breaking of every window screen on the first floor; permanent opening of windows for two weeks at a time during the rainy season; removal of $30,000, 14-foot draperies and storage in cardboard boxes; drilling of holes throughout the home for DIRECTV installation; removal of landscaping; and repainting of walls in colors that didn't match.

Yeah, I don't have much sympathy for that DirecTV thing. The guy is the VP of a football team -- you didn't think he'd be installing a dish for Sunday Ticket?
