Vikings Could Draft a QB ... Unless They Don't

It looks like the Vikings' 2007 season is saved: they signed Drew Henson this week. You know, the same guy who was on the practice squad for six weeks last season and was released from the Cowboys in 2005.

Okay, Henson probably won't make it out of training camp, but quarterback is a legitimate concern for the Vikings. This is evidenced by head coach Brad Childress joining the 100 or so other NFL types at the LSU Pro Day. Childress also attended Brady Quinn's Pro Day earlier this month. According to the Star Tribune, however, the team might not use their seventh-overall pick on a quarterback:
The odds remain, however, that the Vikings will enter training camp with Tarvaris Jackson and Brooks Bollinger competing for the starting job.
I think it makes sense to give Jackson a chance -- I mean, Minnesota did trade up to draft him last year -- but if Bollinger wins the job, well, it could be a repeat of the 2006 season. It also means that Jackson may never be more than a backup and the Vikings will be looking for a starting quarterback a year from now.

So, yeah, it's kind of a Catch 22 ... assuming neither Russell or Quinn are available when the Vikings' go on the clock with the seventh-overall pick. But who knows, maybe this is the year Henson finally gets it. Don't forget, he started over Tom Brady at Michigan. That counts for something, right? No? Okay, forget I mentioned anything.

Stoops to the NFL Unlikely for Now

With the reports that Oklahoma's head coach, Bob Stoops, is among the three likely candidates to replace Atlanta Falcon's Jim Mora, reported by ESPN's Chris Mortensen. Shouldn't surprise most, the Oklahoma coach was among the candidates to replace fired Dan Reeves in 2003.

Bob Stoops has always been a hot commodity, among the top of the list of every owner, and athletic director. Stoops had the perfect college opportunity in 2004, to replace fired Ron Zook from the University of Florida. As Stoops was the defensive coordinator under Steve Spurrier at Florida in the 90's. After turning down NFL offers for the Miami Dolphins and the Cleveland Browns, with Stoops born in Youngstown, Ohio.
