Roy Jones Jr. Defeats Omar Sheika at March Badness

Appearing in the main event of the March Badness show he promoted, Roy Jones Jr. defeated Omar Sheika Saturday night in his hometown of Pensacola, Florida.

Jones was clearly faster and more skilled than Sheika, and after the first round it was obvious that Sheika didn't belong in the same ring with Jones. The hand speed that made Jones the best boxer in the world in the 1990s might have diminished somewhat, but it's still far beyond anything Sheika could handle. Jones never knocked Sheika down, but he so out-classed him that in the fifth round, the ref had seen enough and called a halt to the fight.

Roy Jones, Omar Sheika Make Weight for March Badness Boxing Main Event

Both Roy Jones Jr. and Omar Sheika made weight for Saturday night's March Badness card, with Sheika coming in right at the light heavyweight limit of 175 pounds and Jones coming in 1.75 pounds under.

The fight, which is promoted by Jones' Square Ring Promotions, is the main event of a hybrid boxing/MMA pay-per-view card that takes place Saturday night in Pensacola, Florida. Click here for March Badness MMA weigh-in results.

Video: Bobby Lashley vs. Jason Guida, With Roy Jones as Promoter

Roy Jones Jr. has two jobs on Saturday night: He'll step into the ring to box Omar Sheika, and he'll promote the entire March Badness card, which features both MMA and boxing on the undercard, and Bobby Lashley fighting Jason Guida in the MMA main event.

March Badness Still Advertising Ken Shamrock (Subject to Change)

Above is a picture I just took off my own TV, showing a commercial for Saturday night's March Badness pay-per-view show. The only problem is that Ken Shamrock has been suspended after testing positive for steroids and is no longer on the card.

MMA and Boxing Can Coexist Peacefully, Roy Jones Jr. Says

Boxing and mixed martial arts are often portrayed as bitter rivals, as in the above debate between UFC announcer Joe Rogan and boxing promoter Lou DiBella. But the boxer Roy Jones Jr., who decided to put some MMA fights on the undercard of his own upcoming boxing match with Omar Sheika on Saturday night, has a very different view of the relationship between boxing and MMA.

Jason Guida Replaces Ken Shamrock vs. Bobby Lashley at March Badness

The steroid suspension of Ken Shamrock forced the promoters of the upcoming "March Badness" boxing/MMA event to find a new opponent for the former pro wrestler Bobby Lashley. That opponent, it has now been reported, is Jason Guida.

Ariel Helwani of Versus.com reports that Guida vs. Lashley will take place on the undercard of a night of fights that also includes Roy Nelson vs. Jeff Monson in MMA and the return of Roy Jones to the boxing ring, to face Omar Sheika.
