If Percy Harvin Could Be Anyone for a Day, It Would Be Tim Tebow

Percy Harvin, in a recent interview with the Pioneer Press, comes off as a pretty simple fella.

Favorite television show? Saved by the Bell. He never misses it, and it comes on several times a day. What's he buying with his new contract? "Probably nothing for myself."

Last meal? Pork chops, collards, mac/cheese and a biscuit, washed down with a Pepsi. But ask him who he'd want to trade places with for a day and the answer is pretty odd/awkward: Tim Tebow.

Percy Harvin Released From Hospital, Does Not Have Swine Flu

Minnesota Vikings rookie wide receiver Percy Harvin has been released from an Atlanta hospital where he was treated for dehydration, and doctors say he does not have the H1N1 swine flu virus.

Harvin began throwing up during a layover Thursday at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport and was hospitalized. He was tested for the H1N1 virus as a precaution, but the test came back negative.

Vikings coach Brad Childress said Harvin was simply exhausted and dehydrated from too much travel.

From Detroit to Dallas, Minicamp Tidbits

The first day of minicamps are over for the day and we recap some highlights.

Vikings coach Brad Childress could have taken the easy way out Friday when asked about retired quarterback Brett Favre.

Instead he said, "We haven't (talked about Favre); it doesn't mean we won't ... We talk about everything, from what's going on in the United States today. We talk about everything, so yeah, I'm sure we'll talk about that."

Earlier in the day, Bus Cook, Favre's agent said his client was done playing. Also, top draft choice Percy Harvin missed the first day of rookie camp but he seems OK.

Harvin, Defense Might Not Be Enough to Overcome Vikings' QB Shortcomings

The goal of every NFL team is to win the Super Bowl. Even if, through front-office hires and player acquisitions, that doesn't always appear to be the case. But of the last 15 teams to hoist the Lombardi trophy, only two featured quarterbacks not classified as "franchise caliber."

In 2000, the Ravens won it all with a kick-ass defense. Trent Dilfer's job was to give the ball to Jamal Lewis and get out of the way. Two years later: same story, different team. The Buccaneers' defense did the heavy lifting; Brad Johnson was in charge of game-managing Jon Gruden's version of the West Coast offense with short passes and handoffs.

Childress Beats Belichick to Harvin

On Sunday, during the 12-hour Day-2 draft marathon, I mentioned that the Patriots, as has become customary during the Bill Belichick era, spent much of the weekend trading down the board, accumulating picks for future drafts, and when the opportunity presented itself, selecting players who fit their scheme.

The first time New England traded down came 22 picks into the proceedings, when they worked a deal with the Ravens, who promptly drafted offensive tackle Michael Oher. At the time, it was somewhat surprising that the Patriots didn't take Oher -- they had o-line issues last season -- but to hear Vikings head coach Brad Childress tell it, Belichick wanted to get his mitts on another player at No. 23.

'HouseCast 14: MDS, Draft and Mannings

The FanHouse Podcast: Because bloggers are much sexier on the phone.

Roger Goodell Matthew StaffordThe NFL Draft, despite some "meh" coverage from ESPN, dominated the weekend, just like it always does. There were plenty of storylines: from the same bad teams making more bad draft choices, to the Lions going with Matthew Stafford, fantasy football repercussions, and, of course, judging. Pointing and judging and laughing. But because mocking others is way more fun in person, Ryan and I thought we'd ring up good friend Michael David Smith and talk NFL Draft. MDS gives us his breakdown on the Lions, Percy Harvin, Pat White, Josh McDaniels' continued epic FAIL and even Twitter! Enjoy.

Percy Harvin Comes to Minnesota With Plenty of Baggage

It's remarkable to think that three years removed from the sex boat scandal, and the subsequent fallout that cost Mike Tice his job, the Vikings would seriously consider drafting Percy Harvin, the former Florida standout who tested positive for marijuana at the NFL Combine in February.

But it's not the failed drug test that should be most worrisome for Minnesota's front office -- plenty of professional athletes smoke weed -- it's the fact that he wasn't smart enough to pass on grass when he knew he'd have to pee in a cup once he got to Indianapolis. As NFL scouts have preached: it's not so much a drug test as an intelligence test. And Harvin flunked both.

Harvin to Instantly Impact Fantasy Football Value of Vikings' Offense

Despite character concerns surfacing before the draft, Percy Harvin still found himself a first-round selection, and he fits rather nicely in the Minnesota Vikings' offense. The dynamic play-maker, who can score from anywhere on the field at any point in the game, can fit in the slot or outside. He can be put in position to run the football with some creative play-calling.

The impact Harvin should have on the real football field won't be measured just in his stats, though. If he realizes his potential, he'll take some attention away from both Adrian Peterson and Bernard Berrian. He'll accrue some personal numbers of his own, though. Check out the fantasy football ripple effect after the jump.

Jets Wanted Percy Harvin as Weapon for Mark Sanchez

The New York Jets made the biggest splash of Saturday's NFL draft by trading up for USC quarterback Mark Sanchez, but they wanted to do more than just that. According to one report, the Jets tried to trade back into the first round to select Florida wide receiver Percy Harvin, who ultimately went to the Minnesota Vikings with the 22nd pick in the first round.

Rich Cimini of the New York Daily News reports that the Jets liked Harvin so much that they called the Cleveland Browns -- the team that shipped them the fifth pick, with which they took Sanchez -- to inquire about another trade. After a series of trades, the Browns had the 21st pick, and the Jets wanted to take Harvin there.

After Matthew Stafford, Lions Draft Brandon Pettigrew, Louis Delmas

The Detroit Lions took all the suspense out of the first pick in Saturday's NFL draft by signing quarterback Matthew Stafford to a six-year contract Friday night. But the Lions made a couple of surprising picks later in the day, drafting Brandon Pettigrew with the 20th pick and Louis Delmas with the 33rd.

Pettigrew is a talented tight end from Oklahoma State who will be a good target for Stafford, but I'm not convnced he was the right pick at 20. I would have preferred a player like Florida wide receiver Percy Harvin or Illinois cornerback Vontae Davis.
