UFC 106 Main Event Breakdown: Tito Ortiz vs. Forrest Griffin

Forrest GriffinAt first glance, the Tito Ortiz vs. Forrest Griffin UFC 106 main event seems simple enough to diagnose. It's Ortiz's wrestling against Griffin's active standup, right? It'll be a carbon copy of their UFC 59 matchup, right?

Maybe, but maybe not.

After all, who can really say with any certainty what Ortiz will look like in the octagon after nearly 18 months away from the sport, after surgery, rehab and a taxing training camp? Unless you had eyes in his Big Bear facility, there is really no way of knowing.

Pete Sell to Serve as Guest Security Guard on 'Jerry Springer Show'

Pete Sell, who hasn't competed since his first-round loss to Matt Brown at UFC 96 in March, will make his return to a television near you on an upcoming episode of The Jerry Springer Show. "Drago" will serve as a guest security guard on the episode, which was taped on Tuesday in Connecticut, and will air in the coming weeks.

"It's going to be funny, man. I'm going to be singing "Jerry" with everybody else," Sell told FanHouse on Tuesday prior to the taping.

At 37, Nate Quarry Still Enjoying UFC Grind As He Readies for Tim Credeur

Nate QuarryIn April, Nate Quarry rebounded from the quickest loss in his career with a dominant first-round victory over Jason MacDonald. Now, the heavy-handed middleweight hopes to make it two in a row, but will need to stop the growing momentum of Tim Credeur, who is on a six-fight win streak. The two square off at UFC Fight Night on Sept. 16.

In this FanHouse interview, Quarry (11-3) candidly talks about the Credeur matchup, his disappointment in losing to Demian Maia, why he'd still take the Rich Franklin fight knowing it would end in infamy, and the best and worst parts of being a fighter at age 37.

Yves Lavigne: 'I Screwed Up' at UFC 96

Referee Yves Lavigne has acknowledged that he screwed up during the Pete Sell-Matt Brown fight at UFC 96 on Saturday, saying that he knows he took way too long to stop the fight and allowed Sell to take too much damage.

Lavigne told Neil Davidson of the Canadian Press that he made a mistake in trying to stop the fight too early, and then he made another mistake in letting the fight go before ultimately stopping the fight too late.

UFC 90: Josh Burkman Misses Weight, Thiago Alves (And Everyone Else) Makes Weight

Welterweight Josh Burkman came in overweight today at the UFC 90 weigh-in, showing up at 173 pounds for his fight with Pete Sell.

By rule, Burkman will get an hour to try to lose two pounds and get down to the 171-pound limit. If he's not able to make weight, it's not known yet whether the fight will go on, but it most likely will. (UPDATE: Burkman got down to 171 on his second attempt, an hour later.)

All other fighters made weight, including Thiago Alves, who was the subject of much speculation after coming in three pounds overweight for his last fight, against Matt Hughes at UFC 85.

Both fighters in the main event made weight with room to spare: UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva came in at 184, while challenger Patrick Cote came in at 183.

Full weigh in results are below.
