Inspired by Highlight Video, Phillipe Nover To Continue Fighting Despite Seizure

During season eight of The Ultimate Fighter, eventual runner-up Phillipe Nover was jokingly referred to as "Fainting Phillipe" by president Dana White for passing out on the first episode.

But Nover's health concerns took a far more serious turn Wednesday afternoon when he fell victim to an apparent seizure hours before his scheduled bout Wednesday against Sam Stout.

Nover reflected on his officlal blog Thursday evening the fight cancellation and his decision to continue fighting despite his syncopal episodes.

The fight between Phillipe Nover and Sam Stout at Wednesday's UFC Fight Night in Oklahoma City has been canceled after Nover suffered a seizure hours before the fight was set to go off.

UFC President Dana White made the announcement on Twitter:
The nover stout fight is off. Nover had a seizure in the locker room. He is ok. Stout was very cool during the incident and is a class act!!

The MMA Hour: Mike Swick on Injury; Phillipe Nover Talks UFN 19

Mike SwickOn this week's edition of The MMA Hour, we were joined by UFC welterweight contender Mike Swick to talk about his recent injury, which forced him to withdraw from his UFC 103 bout against Martin Kampmann. Swick also talked about when he expects to fight next and his desire to face veteran Matt Hughes.

Later in the program, we spoke to Phillipe Nover about his important fight at Wednesday's UFC Fight Night 19 against Sam Stout. Nover is coming off two straight disappointing loses and needs a big win against Stout to reignite his career. Check out the show below.

Phillipe Nover Subs for Kyle Bradley Against Sam Stout at UFC Fight Night 19

The Ultimate Fighter 8 lightweight finalist Phillipe Nover has accepted a fight on four weeks notice to face Sam Stout at UFC Fight Night 19 on Sept. 16 in Oklahoma City, FanHouse has learned.

Nover (6-2-1) is replacing the injured Kyle Bradley, whom Nover lost a first-round TKO to at UFC 98 in May.

Stout (14-5-1) was last seen in the Octagon in April slugging out a unanimous decision over Matt Wiman at UFC 97.

More Criticism for Yves Lavigne After Phillipe Nover-Kyle Bradley Stoppage

It hasn't been a good 2009 for Yves Lavigne, and it got worse on Saturday night at UFC 98. Lavigne, one of the best-known referees in mixed martial arts, was loudly booed at the MGM Grand Saturday night because he brought the undercard bout between Phillipe Nover and Kyle Bradley to what many in attendance thought was a premature ending.

After The Ultimate Fighter, Dana White Must Love His Young Lightweights

Giving some more thought to the way things turned out at Saturday night's Ultimate Fighter Finale, I have to think that UFC President Dana White is laughing all the way to the bank about the way things played out.

Specifically, White has to think that he has three new lightweight stars under the age of 25: This year's lightweight Ultimate Fighter, Efrain Escudero, and the guys Escudero beat in the semifinals and finals, Junie Browning and Phillipe Nover.

The Escudero-Nover fight in the Finale was outstanding, and it was close to even. Check out the stats at CompuStrike.com: Escudero and Nover landed almost the exact same number of strikes, with Escudero doing enough in the first two rounds to earn the unanimous decision despite a great third round from Nover.

Efrain Escudero Is The Ultimate Fighter, Beats Phillipe Nover in Lightweight Finale

Efrain Escudero won the lightweight tournament of Season 8 of The Ultimate Fighter, beating Phillipe Nover by unanimous decision in tonight's Ultimate Fighter Finale.

Escudero had Nover in trouble early, landing some good strikes and getting Nover's back on the ground. It was a first round that showcased both fighters' talents, and a first round that Escudero won handily.

In the second, Escudero took the fight to the ground immediately and established side control. The fighters soon stood back up, but Escudero looked like the stronger man, and he used his superior wrestling ability to control the round.

Ultimate Fighter Finale Results: Ryan, Vinny, Efrain, Phillipe Fight for UFC Contract

Two MMA up-and-comers will earn six-figure UFC contracts tonight in the finale of Season 8 of The Ultimate Fighter. We'll be providing live results and letting you know who won all the fights.

In the lightweight finals, Efrain Escudero will fight Phillipe Nover, and in the light heavyweight finals, Vinny Magalhaes will fight Ryan Bader. Several other fighters from this season of The Ultimate Fighter are on the undercard, including, somewhat controversially, Junie Browning, who will take on Dave Kaplan.

The event takes place at The Palms in Las Vegas, with the early results starting to roll in a little after 6 p.m. Eastern and the televised portion of the card beginning on Spike at 9 p.m. Eastern.

UPDATE: Bader, Escudero Are Stars; Browning Stole the Show

Full results are below.

Frank Mir: Phillipe Nover and Efrain Escudero Are Great Examples of Martial Artists

Frank Mir, the UFC heavyweight who coached on this season of The Ultimate Fighter, says he thought one of this season's competitors, Junie Browning, was such a poor example that he wouldn't let his children watch the show.

But Mir thinks highly of most of the rest of the young fighters he coached, including the two lightweights who will fight in Saturday night's finale, Efrain Escudero and Phillipe Nover.

When I talked to Mir this week, he told me he thinks Escudero and Nover are good young men with great futures ahead of them in MMA. And he said their fight is going to be a good match-up -- and a tough one to predict.

"I don't know who's going to win," Mir said.
