It's Worth the Wait for Lanny Wadkins

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- Lanny Wadkins wanted to make one thing absolutely clear. "It's great to be here," he said.

Wadkins was seated on a stage at the World Golf Village on Monday, or on top of the world. Definitely one of the two, and as far as Wadkins is concerned, the views are identical.

With his name now in the Golf Hall of Fame, Wadkins has finally fulfilled something that was long overdue.

Wadkins -- along with Irishman Christy O'Connor, Sr., Spaniard Jose Maria Olazabal and former U.S. President Dwight D. Eisenhower -- was being inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame.

That was the good news. The bad was that it had taken Wadkins 14 years to get the call.

Golf Clubs, Swedish Expats Welcome Tiger Woods and Family to Jupiter, Florida

Next year, the Tiger Woods family will be moving into snazzy new digs in Jupiter Beach, Florida, up down the road* from their current Orlando residence in the posh Isleworth community. This isn't news -- we mentioned last year that Tiger was dropping $45 million on the new pad -- but as the move-in date nears, Jupiter-area golf clubs are quietly jockeying for the right to claim Woods as a member.

Unsurprisingly, there are plenty of private courses in the area (warm weather + old, filthy-rich white folks = countless high-end golfing options) and almost all of them have invited Eldrick to patronize their amenity-laden services.

Raymond Floyd has designed a new course some 25 miles from Jupiter and it comes with a massive steel gate and a security guard blocking the entrance. "'I can't have an open door,'" Floyd said ... 'I have to keep it very select.'" Translation: "we gotta keep the riff-raff out." Fair enough.

Jack Nicklaus also has a private course with a state-of-the-art driving range.
Asked if Tiger might head there, Jack's son Gary, a co-chairman of the Honda Classic, smiled and said, "An invitation has been extended. A response has not been received."
