One of the best young fighters in all of MMA made his American debut in spectacular fashion Saturday night, as Gegard Mousasi won the Strikeforce light heavyweight title, beating Renato "Babalu" Sobral by first-round TKO.

It was an absolutely destructive performance by Mousasi, who took Babalu down in the first minute of the first round, got on top of him and punched him in the face repeatedly until Babalu was out cold and referee Big John McCarthy stepped in to save him.

After Title Defense, 'Babalu' Sobral Wants Fedor Emelianenko Rematch

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- It seems as though we've been talking about Renato Sobral vs. Gegard Mousasi for quite some time now. Of course, both men were supposed to fight on the ill-fated "Affliction: Trilogy" card. Instead, the bout was moved to this Saturday's Strikeforce event on Showtime, where "Babalu" will defend his light heavyweight title against the up-and-coming Mousasi.

FanHouse spoke to the veteran Sobral about spoiling Mousasi's United States debut, and a possible rematch against one of the newest members of the Strikeforce roster, Fedor Emelianenko. The full video interview is below.

Take Two: Gegard Mousasi to Finally Showcase Skills in America

SAN JOSE, Calif. - At this point, Gegard Mousasi just wants to fight. The 24-year-old was forced to wait an extra couple of weeks to make his United States MMA debut after Affliction canceled it's final show. One could say, though, that everything worked out for the best, as Mousasi is still facing Renato Sobral, but now Sobral's Strikeforce light heavyweight title will be on the line.

FanHouse spoke to Mousasi about how he ended up on this Strikeforce card and his interest in pursuing a boxing career. The full video interview is below.

Gegard Mousasi Turns 24, Trains With Freddie Roach

If Josh Barnett hadn't failed a drug test, Gegard Mousasi would be celebrating his 24th birthday by fighting Renato "Babalu" Sobral at Affliction Trilogy. Instead, his fight has been pushed back two weeks to the August 15 Strikeforce show, and Mousasi is celebrating by training at Freddie Roach's gym in Los Angeles.

Strikeforce Adds Gegard Mousasi vs. Renato 'Babalu' Sobral Title Fight

Picking through the wreckage of the scrapped Affliction Trilogy card, the Strikeforce MMA promotion has added a very good fight between Gegard Mousasi and Renato "Babalu" Sobral to its August 15 show. Although Mousasi-Sobral was originally slated to be part of the Affliction card, Babalu is actually Strikeforce's light heavyweight champion, so this will now be a title fight.
