What a sad story. This is Rodrick Stewart of Kansas lying on the floor at the Alamodome today after suffering an injury during the Jayhawks' final practice before the Final Four. ESPN reported that Stewart suffered a serious knee injury that will keep him from playing.
According to multiple media reports, Stewart went up for a dunk at the end of practice, landed awkwardly, and crumpled to the ground. Stewart is a senior and not considered an NBA prospect, so his basketball career is now apparently over.
The Kansas City Star reports that Stewart was taken off the Alamodome floor in a golf cart. The Lawrence Journal-World reports that he suffered a fractured kneecap and quotes coach Bill Self saying Stewart will have surgery when the team returns to Lawrence. Stewart averaged 2.8 points in 11.6 minutes a game this season.
