Okay, It's Gotta Be a Rule: Wear a Giants Jersey, Go Down With Injury

The most frustrating part of being a Giants fan over the last three years has been the overwhelming amount of injuries. Not once in those three years have the Giants managed to play through a season without a significant injury. In fact, they'd consider it a good year if they only suffered a single significant injury.

Unfortunately, with a little over a week to go until the regular season begins, the Giants are once again facing those injury demons. It began early in the offseason when fullback Jim Finn was placed on injured reserve with a torn labrum and was promptly followed by cornerback Michael Stone going down with a hip injury.

Over the course of the next few weeks, the Giants lost tight end Darcy Johnson (knee), wide receiver Michael Jennings (Achilles), defensive tackle Marcus Bell (knee) and defensive end Dek Bake (back).

New York Giants @ Baltimore Ravens: Week Two Preseason Injury Report

Taking into account that it's the preseason, many of the players sitting on the sidelines tonight would normally be on the field if it was a meaningful game. With that said, I'm sure most fans would like to know who they should expect to see this evening. For that reason, I've done by best to create an accurate injury report -- official reports are not posted until week one of the regular season.

New York Giants:

Out: Wide receiver Plaxico Burress (ankle), linebacker Gerris Wilkinson (knee), center Todd Londot (ankle), long snapper Ryan Kuehl (calf) and safety Michael Stone (hip).

Questionable: Safety Craig Dahl (groin), wide receiver Marco Thomas (groin), Sinorice Moss (ankle) and Zak DeOssie (ankle).

Probable: Wide receiver Amani Toomer (knee), cornerback Gerrick McPhearson (groin), cornerback Corey Webster (hip), tight end Kevin Boss (shoulder) and defensive tackle Charrod Taylor (toe).

Taking into account that it's the preseason, many of the players sitting on the sidelines tonight would normally be on the field if it was a meaningful game. Underwood (hip), cornerback Aaron Ross (glute) and defensive tackle Fred Robbins (calf)

Probable: Tight end Jeremy Shockey (leg) and defensive end Osi Umenyiora (hip).

Playing: Lots of rookies and free agents. (Kidding, obviously. But seriously, can this team ever escape the injury bug?)

Giants Training Camp Notebook: Jared Lorenzen Long Snaps; Guy Whimper Starting?

Giants Training Camp Notebook is a cliff notes style post aimed at giving Giants fans up-to-date news about the most recent training camp practices.

- I am going to start off with the weird news of the day: Back-up quarterback Jared Lorenzen was practicing long snapping duties! No, I am not kidding. Although practice was officially over at the time, Lorenzen got down and began tossing them back -- and if I understand correctly, he did quite well.

- Only a day after General Manager Jerry Reese declared the battle for left tackle to be "over," it was announced that Guy Whimper will start with the first team on Saturday night. My only reaction? Great way to get Eli Manning killed.

- What is going on with Osi Umenyiora? This guy has been on fire and given no reason to doubt his earlier prediction that he'd be the NFL's premier defensive end.

Giants Training Camp Notebook: Offense Quacks at Eli; A Fight Breaks Out

Yet another edition of Giants Training Camp Notebook:

- Another day, more Eli Manning inconsistency. This time, however, the team reacted to his inconsistency. After missing a wide open Sinorice Moss, the team turned around and began quacking in his general direction. While the entire episode is rather funny, it's sad to hear that Eli is still struggling to make easy passes.

- Surprise, surprise; Rich Seubert got into another training camp fight. When was the last time he wasn't in a scrum with someone? This time his unfortunate opponent came in the form of second-year linebacker Mathias Kiwanuka. To spare Kiwi additional shame, I will only tell you that he ended up on the ground.

- The injury bug refuses to leave the Giants alone. This time, long snapper Ryan Kuehl was bitten. He will undergo an MRI tomorrow on his injured (lower) leg. I really hate to sound negative, but the Giants are already two-for-two with season ending injuries this year.

Giants May Release Kuehl, Keep Two Kickers

According to a report by Pro Football Weekly, the New York Giants are strongly considering cutting long-snapper Ryan Kuehl.

On this surface this seems like an odd move. Why would the Giants release a solid long-snapper when they already have so many question marks on special teams? Well, it would allow them to keep both recently acquired Lawrence Tynes and rookie Josh Huston on the team. Tynes would kick field goals while Huston would assume the kickoff duties.

It would also allow them to use either linebacker Zak DeOssie or defensive tackle Jay Alford as the long-snapper. Both players have been practicing at that position this offseason and that leads me to believe that Kuehl's tenure in New York is in fact in jeopardy.
