Ryan Moore Wins Wyndham Championship on Third Playoff Hole

FanHouse is fighting the rain at Greensboro's 2009 Wyndham Championship.

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Ryan Moore never really looked like a candidate to win the Wyndham Championship. It's not that he's untalented by any means (in fact, nothing could be further from the truth), but a third-round 70 seemed to doom the unsponsored youngster. But he fought back several times late in the afternoon at Greensboro and won his first ever PGA event in five seasons on the Tour.

Only four other players in the top-20 shot above 70 during a third round that saw Sergio Garcia make tremendous leaderboard moves, and Moore was, for most of the day, well behind the leaders. But a scorching 31 on the back nine that featured five consecutive birdies from holes 12 to 16 suddenly vaulted Moore into the lead by himself.

Host of Young Stars in Hunt at Wyndham

This week's Wyndham Championship is the last tournament of the year for players to earn a little more cash, and jump a few more spots in the FedEx Cup point standings, hoping to make their way into the playoffs that kick off next week. Basically, it is the best shot for people that aren't having their best year to do a little more to make sure they aren't left out when the Barclays begins and only the top-125 on the FedEx Cup point list are invited.

On a weather-shortened Thursday at Sedgefield Country Club, a few players did just that. Chez Reavie, who won the Canadian Open last season but has struggled mightily in '09, shot a 6-under 64, his best round of the year, to tie Brandt Snedeker and Ryan Moore atop of the leaderboard. All three leaders have had lackluster years, but Reavie is the one that needs the biggest boost.

Yo, America: Ryo Ishikawa Has Arrived

Right as this story goes live, Ryo Ishikawa (pronounced "Yo") will be hitting his first tee shot on the PGA Tour at this weekend's Northern Trust Open (leaderboard). Why should you care?

Because the 17-year-old Japanese phenomenon is Tiger Woods meets Michelle Wie meets Yao Ming.

Monday Pin Placement: It Ain't Easy Being Wie

Every Monday
during the PGA Tour season (unless one of the tournaments you're writing about is postponed due to rain and concludes on a weekday), Monday Pin Placement will run as a wrap-up of the weekend's action, with a little commentary mixed in. We'll focus on what you may have missed while you were out grinding on the putting green.

Monday Pin Placement: Kenny Perry Got Lucky 13 For His Dad

Every week, Monday Pin Placement will run as a wrap-up of the weekend's action, with a little commentary mixed in. This past weekend, FanHouse was out at the FBR Open, a tournament known more for its party atmosphere than its golf.

Kenny Perry Nearly Made Me Emotional -- On Friday, Kenny Perry walked in the press room after a smoldering 63 that got him back in a tournament that he nearly shot himself out of on Thursday with a 1-over 72. When he started chatting, it was the same old story you get from any golfer. "I made birdie here, I missed an eagle putt there, I felt I hit the ball solid, it was a good day for me around the greens." Yawn. We've heard all that before, Kenny.

What I wasn't ready for was this. Perry started talking about his ailing father and how he felt he needed to play good golf just keep his father alive.

Ryan Moore Is Enjoying (Sponsor-Free) Golf More Than Ever

Update: Ryan Moore did, in fact, just win the Wyndham Championship, mostly sponsor-free as well.

FanHouse is at this weekend's FBR Open, a tournament known more for its party atmosphere than its golf.

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Earlier Friday we posted a story about Ryan Moore and his interesting outfits. The guy has pimped a headband during a round, a pink V-neck sweater in the desert and Puma shoes (the kind you and I would wear to the bar) affixed with golf spikes.

His golf bag has no name brands, his hat, with the short bill, has no Ping or Oakley written on the front. His clubs aren't the newest, cutting-edge brand; he has an assortment of Titleist wedges and a Titleist putter, Callaway irons, Ping three-woods, and an Adams hybrid and driver.

Ryan Moore Just Doesn't Dress Like Your Average Pro Golfer

This weekend, FanHouse will be out at the FBR Open, a tournament known more for its party atmosphere than its golf.

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- I'm all for pushing the envelope. Dudes wearing chick-jeans, girls wearing their boyfriends' Jinco Jeans; it is all good. What I'm not sure about, however, is this headband look that Ryan Moore sported at the Justin Timberlake Shriner Tournament last year, or the outfit he was wearing on Friday at the 2009 FBR Open that was a little too Bagger Vance for my tastes.

Monday Pin Placement: Zach Johnson Enjoyed Hawaii

Every Monday during the PGA TOUR season, Monday's Pin Placement will run as a wrap-up of the weekend action, with a little commentary mixed in. We will focus on anything you may have missed while you were grinding on the putting green.

Zach Johnson Gets Lei'd -- So much is said about the young golfers these days. We talk about Anthony Kim, Hunter Mahan, Ryan Moore and just about anyone else that is under 30 and has a little game. What is hard for most to realize (because Tiger didn't do it) is most professional golfers don't hit their talent strides until they get to 30.

Rough Putting: Five Young Whippersnappers to Keep an Eye on in '09

Golf season starts tomorrow, which means it is time to actually start thinking of the best game with dimples. While the giants take a nap, others will play at the Mercedes Championship, and golf will be around the rest of the year. FanHouse spent a couple of minutes thinking what is to come in 2009. Here is what transpired.

It all starts tomorrow, people. The 2009 PGA season gets underway at the Mercedes Championship. Except that four of last year's champs -- who also happen to be the four best players in the world -- won't be there. Tiger, Sergio, Phil and Paddy are skipping out on the free trip to Hawaii, although I suspect the other 33 players in the field aren't complaining.

Last season, Anthony Kim and, to a lesser extent (because we've known about him for a while ... and because Brinson has some worries), Camilo Villegas emerged as "the latest young golfer who will supposedly challenge Tiger Woods." And to be fair, both had a lot success. While they continue the seemingly impossible task of supplanting Woods atop the rankings, there are other young players hoping to do the same. The difference: we haven't heard much about them. Until now, anyway. Here's a look at five guys to watch as '09 unfolds.
