There is some disturbing news coming out of New York today. Peter Abraham has relayed to us on the LoHud Yankees Blog that Jason Giambi has shaved off his glorious lip-warmer. Abraham's report leaves a little room for hope, though: Sources say? Maybe it's still there! Alas, this doesn't seem like a joking matter and it seems downright likely that the GIambino is now bare-lipped.Sources have told the LoHud Yankees Blog that Jason Giambi has shaved his mustache. The Big G clearly needed to do something given that he has four extra-base hits and a .205 batting average since July 1.
Me? I come here not to shave Giambi's mustache, but to praise it. I'll always remember the good times. There was the time that Giambi's mustache introduced the world to the American Mustache Institute, which was funny for a good three days, the time that his mustache inspired me to shave my two weeks worth of stubble into a mustache, take a picture for posterity, and quickly take a razor to it, and the time that I made fun of it.
Now, there's no longer an exuse to slip the phrase, "upper-lip sweater" into a FanHouse post. And the world is a slightly sadder place.
