Maybe the following will bring the slew of Brett Favre bashers to their senses, but probably not. Consider this: The 49ers, Broncos, Lions, Buccaneers, Bills, Jets, Vikings, Browns, Chiefs, Texans, Rams, Redskins, Raiders, Broncos, Titans, Jaguars and the Panthers.

That's more than half of the NFL.

Even at 39, and with a creaky shoulder, Favre is better than the quarterbacks for each of those teams. He's also as good as the ones with the Seahawks and the Packers -- yes, even the Packers, his former team of yore, but now his Great Satan, according to somebody whispering to the New York Daily News.

Last week, the NFL clarified an existing rule to protect quarterbacks from the kind of hits that sidelined Tom Brady for virtually the entire 2008 season. The clarification "specifically prohibits a defender on the ground who hasn't been blocked or fouled directly into the quarterback from lunging or diving at the quarterback's lower legs."
