Since the demise of EliteXC last October, Gina Carano has remained relatively quiet. The female mixed martial arts fighter is one of the biggest stars in the sport and it seems like every day someone's talking about her proposed super-fight with Cristiane "Cyborg" Santos.

Kim Couture notched her first professional mixed martial arts win tonight, beating Lina Kvokov at Strikeforce: Destruction.

Couture, who suffered a broken jaw while trying to touch gloves in her first fight, didn't bother touching gloves this time around. Instead, she stalked Kvokov, landed a combination, and then worked some knees from the Muay Thai clinch. Kvokov was clearly overmatched, appeared to be afraid to take a punch, and didn't look like she belonged in a professional MMA fight.

The fight was mercifully stopped quickly, and Couture won a first-round TKO.

Couture, who was cornered by her husband Randy Couture and her friend and training partner Gina Carano, improves her record to 1-1. Kvokov falls to 0-2.

Big John McCarthy, the best-known referee in the history of mixed martial arts, is ending his hiatus and getting back into the cage.

Sherdog reports that McCarthy, who quit refereeing to become an MMA commentator, will work the Strikeforce Destruction show on November 21 in San Jose.

"I missed doing it," McCarthy said of working as a ref. "Sometimes when you walk away from something and you think it's time, once you're away you realize what you're missing –- it's kind of like why guys come back to fighting. It's what I like doing. It's what I was meant to do."
