FSU Transcripts Show How Seminoles Landed in a Binder

Florida State logoThe 695-page transcript of the NCAA's committee on infractions meeting with Florida State in October 2008 in Indianapolis failed to answer one lingering mystery. Come on now, where did the black binder from Brenda Monk's office disappear to? There's also more intrigue, wink-wink, in the NCAA documents released Wednesday as the result of a news media lawsuit.

To think that FSU President T.K. Wetherell and the NCAA played so nicely together, with Wetherell going as far as to say in his closing comments that the pair's working relationship to come to a resolution in the university's academic fraud case would be a "classic case study" for others to review.

And if a pig had wings.

That honeymoon ended last month on Labor Day, when Wetherell went on national television before the FSU-Miami season opener and described the NCAA's dealings with the university as "bait-and-switch." The NCAA, of course, thought about it and fired back two days later and basically said Wetherell was out of his mind.

As Expected, Florida State to Appeal NCAA Sanction on 2006-2007 Victories

Florida State -- hey, remember when they were good? -- is challenging the punishment handed down by the NCAA on Friday in relation to an incident of academic fraud perpetrated by athletes across many of its sports programs. No, not the entire punishment, but simply the NCAA order that Florida State "vacate" all victories achieved with ineligible athletes stemming from that incident. You can call it the tip of the NCAA's spear.

Its safe to say this is being done in the name of Bobby. Simply put, legendary football coach Bobby Bowden's dimming hopes of outlasting Penn State's Joe Paterno for the all-time Division I NCAA victory mark are kaput if the ruling is followed through. The Seminoles are playing the unknowing victim card, but will it work?
