UFC 106 Fight Card: Ortiz vs. Griffin, Koscheck vs. Johnson

UFC 106 will now be headlined by former light heavyweight champions Tito Ortiz vs. Forrest Griffin at the pay-per-view event on Nov. 21 emanating from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.

To boost the card due to postponement of Brock Lesnar vs. Shane Carwin until UFC 108 on Jan. 2, Josh Koscheck has been matched with Anthony Johnson in a co-headliner between top welterweights.

Below is the UFC 106 fight card.

Brock Lesnar Out of UFC 106 Main Event

In a major blow to the Nov. 21 UFC 106 card in Vegas, the heavyweight championship bout between titleholder Brock Lesnar and challenger Shane Carwin has been scrapped.

Yahoo! Sports is reporting that Lesnar withdrew Monday from the main event due to an illness that has sidelined him from training for over three-and-a-half weeks.

"He said he's never been this sick in his life," UFC president Dana White told Yahoo! Sports. "He said it's been going on for a long time and he just hasn't been able to shake it."

Lyoto Machida-Shogun Rua Rematch Buys Time for UFC Light Heavyweights

If the Lyoto Machida-Shogun Rua fight at UFC 104 had gone the way everyone expected -- Machida handily defeating Shogun to retain his title -- the UFC would have faced a quandary with its light heavyweight division. Machida would be perceived as so dominant that there wouldn't be any particularly interesting fights for him, and the stacked UFC light heavyweight division might have started to feel a little stale.

That's why Machida's controversial unanimous decision victory on Saturday night was a great thing for the UFC: It sets up a Rua-Machida rematch that will be a bigger fight than the first one, and it buys time for the UFC to re-establish some of its other light heavyweights as contenders to take on the Rua-Machida 2 winner.

UFC 104 Fight Breakdown: Lyoto Machida vs. Mauricio 'Shogun' Rua

In short order, Lyoto Machida has become MMA's golden child, captivating fans around the world with his inimitable style and perfect record. But it wasn't too long ago that Mauricio "Shogun" Rua was MMA's flavor of the month.

So will Machida continue his unbeaten run at UFC 104, or will Shogun rediscover the glory that made him one of the sport's rising stars just a few years ago?

Let's take a look at how Machida-Rua will play out.

MMA Twitter Mailbag: UFC 106 or Strikeforce on CBS?

The last 24 hours have given us some big news on the two biggest MMA cards of the fall: The November 21 UFC 106 got better with Forrest Griffin stepping in for the injured Mark Coleman to face Tito Ortiz, while the November 7 Strikeforce/M-1 Global card got better with Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou facing Gegard Mousasi.

So which card is better: UFC 106: Lesnar vs. Carwin, or Strikeforce and M-1 Global: Fedor vs. Rogers? I asked MMA fans on Twitter to weigh in, and a majority picked UFC. A selection of answers -- plus a bonus question about a fight card that I think might be more fun than either of them -- is below.

Forrest Griffin Replaces Mark Coleman, Will Fight Tito Ortiz at UFC 106

Forrest GriffinForrest Griffin has stepped into the UFC 106 slot vacated by Mark Coleman due to injury, and will take on the returning Tito Ortiz, according to a report from Yahoo Sports, citing confirmation from UFC President Dana White.

The fight is a rematch of an April 2006 contest, which Ortiz (15-6) won in a tight split-decision.

Coleman was forced to withdraw from the bout just days ago, leaving the UFC scrambling for a replacement. Griffin (16-6), like Ortiz a former light-heavyweight champion, should be considered by most a worthy choice.

Mark Coleman Suffers MCL Tear, Pulls Out of UFC 106

Mark Coleman has been forced out of a scheduled bout against Tito Ortiz at the Nov. 21 UFC 106 event in Las Vegas due to a second-degree tear in his ACL.

FanHouse has confirmed the injury with Coleman's long-time friend Michael DiSabato, who also responded to Ortiz for a Twitter post Monday night stating that Coleman "sissie[d] out."

"Coleman does not match make -- he fights -- Tito calls him 'sissy' -- quote me ... only thing Coleman scared of when it comes to Tito is contracting Swine flu from his dirty [bum]," DiSabato told FanHouse.

Tito Ortiz: Mark Coleman 'Sissies Out' of UFC 106 Fight

Tito Ortiz suggested on Twitter Monday night that his scheduled UFC 106 fight with Mark Coleman is off because Coleman pulled out, adding that he still plans to fight on the Nov. 21 card and the UFC will find a replacement opponent for him soon.

Ortiz tweeted:
Coleman, coleman, coleman to bad he sissies out!!! Who's next??? I'm kicking someone's ass on Nov 21st!
That followed a similar tweet in which Ortiz misspelled "Coleman," but whatever the spelling, the message is clear: Ortiz says the Coleman fight is off but that he'll still be fight someone at UFC 106.

Tito Ortiz Lectures a Homeless Guy

Here's your strange video of the day: UFC fighter Tito Ortiz and his girlfriend, porn star Jenna Jameson, standing on the sidewalk, surrounded by paparazzi, when a homeless man approaches and asks Ortiz for money. Ortiz decides to give him a lecture instead of a handout.

At 37, Nate Quarry Still Enjoying UFC Grind As He Readies for Tim Credeur

Nate QuarryIn April, Nate Quarry rebounded from the quickest loss in his career with a dominant first-round victory over Jason MacDonald. Now, the heavy-handed middleweight hopes to make it two in a row, but will need to stop the growing momentum of Tim Credeur, who is on a six-fight win streak. The two square off at UFC Fight Night on Sept. 16.

In this FanHouse interview, Quarry (11-3) candidly talks about the Credeur matchup, his disappointment in losing to Demian Maia, why he'd still take the Rich Franklin fight knowing it would end in infamy, and the best and worst parts of being a fighter at age 37.
