Tonya Harding Sells Bizarre Tale of Rape, Kidnapping Orchestrated by Jeff Gillooly

Former Olympic figure skater Tonya Harding is selling a book, called "The Tonya Tapes" in which she offers, for the first time, an account of why she didn't go to the authorities in 1994 when her rival Nancy Kerrigan was injured in an attack orchestrated by her husband, Jeff Gillooly. Here she is explaining it on Today:

According to Harding, she planned to go to the FBI to report Gillooly, but Gillooly and two other men then kidnapped her, held her at gunpoint, raped her and told her that they would kill her if she didn't help them lie to the authorities.

Today host Meredith Vieira responded to that with the obvious question: Why has it taken her 14 years to tell anyone about this incident? Harding answered that she was ashamed. I think it's fair to say that the vast majority of people watching the interview will conclude that this claim is nothing more than a publicity stunt aimed at selling books.

Tonya Harding's Boxing Career Takes a Hit; Club Can't Get License for Her to Fight

Former Olympic figure skater Tonya Harding was looking to get her boxing career back on track this weekend, but those ambitions took a hit when the Kentucky nightclub that had promoted a Harding fight failed to get the proper state licenses.

So, instead, Harding just showed up at the nightclub and made a personal appearance. Harding describes it:
"the good thing is they still come to see me, whether they like me, whether they don't like me. But they're paying my bills. So, hey,"
So, hey, indeed. I'm picturing Harding's personal appearances as being similar to David Brent's personal appearance in The Office Christmas Special.

And what kind of reception did Harding get? The owner of the club said, "Everybody's loving her. She's really a nice lady, very personable." A nice, personal lady who plotted to have her competition brutally attacked, that is.

The Year's Hottest New Movie

Big ups to the folks at the ubiquitous Fark.com for passing along the theatrical trailer for what is sure to be the year's hottest movie: O.J.'s Eleven.

You can watch the film to get the full lineup, but rest assured that every prominent criminally involved athlete -- with the possible exception of Barry Bonds -- makes an appearance. Not gonna lie: after five seconds or so, I expected this to suck. It most decidedly does not.
