Brazil Should Include Jiu-Jitsu and MMA in 2016 Olympic Celebration

Just one week ago, an international contingent descended upon Barcelona in an athletic competition composed of greats from around the world, including the U.S., Japan, Brazil, Poland, Finland, Australia, France, Iceland and more. Just one week before that, in Dallas, another collection of sportsmen from around the globe came together for a different athletic event. This one boasted athletes from the U.S., Croatia, Belarus, the UK, Denmark and more.

The former was the Abu Dhabi Combat Club championship, a submission wrestling tournament that emphasizes jiu-jitsu, while the latter was UFC 103, representing mixed martial arts. With Rio de Janeiro being chosen as the host site of the 2016 Olympics, Brazil's role in the formation of jiu-jitsu and MMA, and the continuing popularity boom of both sports, it seems clear that both jiu-jitsu and MMA deserve to be included in the Olympic celebration.

Boxing Claims Big Pay-Per-View Victory Over UFC 103

Days after the Floyd Mayweather Jr-Juan Manuel Marquez fight went head-to-head with UFC 103 on pay-per-view, Golden Boy Promotions is declaring that boxing scored a knockout victory over MMA, with four or five times as many buys as the UFC.

It's important to note that Mayweather-Marquez was the biggest boxing match of 2009, while UFC 103 wasn't close to the biggest MMA card of the year. And it's also important to note that pay-per-view buy rates are difficult to nail down.

But Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer said that when all the numbers come in, he'll have an impressive buy rate to announce, likely over 1 million.

Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira Wants Brock Lesnar or Frank Mir Next

Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira says he's ready to fight anytime, and hopes to fight for the title or avenge his most recent loss if he has his way.

"I want Brock Lesnar for sure," said Nogueira, who rebounded from a UFC 92 loss to Frank Mir by defeating Randy Couture by unanimous decision at UFC 102 in August. "I want to fight him. But I would fight Frank Mir also. That's my second choice."

Lesnar is scheduled to fight Shane Carwin in November, but Nogueira is clearly still a top-five UFC heavyweight, and fresh off his teammate Junior Dos Santos' dominating performance over Mirko Cro Cop at UFC 103, Nogueira told FanHouse that he's re-energized in his chase for UFC gold.

Mirko Cro Cop Suspended Indefinitely Following UFC 103 Loss

In the medical suspensions released by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation for Combative Sports, Mirko Cro Cop has been suspended indefinitely following his loss to Junior dos Santos at UFC 103 in Dallas.

Cro Cop was battered by dos Santos in a flurry in the third round until he verbally submitted due to issues seeing. Cro Cop was sent to the hospital after the fight for further evaluation on his eyes.

UFC 103 Video: Vitor Belfort Fight Day

The latest installment of Vitor Belfort's UFC 103 video blog comes from fight day, and it shows that when you're a professional MMA fighter, the lead-up to the fight is ... boring.

Dos Santos Hopes to Follow Teammates Silva, Nogueira as Champ

DALLAS -- With a small sample size of fights to analyze, it's sometimes difficult to accurately assess whether a young fighter is a contender or pretender. But in the case of Junior Dos Santos, it seems safe to say he falls into the first category.

The Brazilian striker looked crisp and powerful in his demolition of Mirko Cro Cop. The Croatian verbally submitted after complaining of vision problems, but the outcome was virtually assured by then. Dos Santos was simply bigger, faster and better.

UFC 103 Notes: White on Mayweather, Escudero's Hospital Trip and More

DALLAS -- While Floyd Mayweather managed to steal most of the major sports headlines away from UFC 103 on Saturday night, UFC President Dana White was in full belief he put on the better event.

How did he know? Because even though White was in the midst of a 13-fight card, he bought the Mayweather-Juan Manuel Marquez fight and had it playing on a monitor near him.

"It sucked," he said. "It sucked just like I said it would and knew it would."

Rick Story Cashes in With Two Fight Bonuses Following Victory

DALLAS -- Rick Story was not one of the main attractions at UFC 103. In fact, he wasn't even scheduled for the televised card. But the 24-year-old Washingtonian left the event as one of the highest-earning fighters on the night, winning "Fight of the Night" and "Submission of the Night" honors for his win over Brian Foster.

Both of those carry separate $65,000 cash prizes, making it a six-figure night for Story.

Rampage Jackson vs. Rashad Evans Fight Not Likely Until March

DALLAS -- While the frost on the friendship between Rampage Jackson and UFC President Dana White is beginning to thaw, it appears that it will have little effect on the delay that brought about their issues in the first place. Jackson, currently in Canada to film "The A-Team" movie, won't be ready to fight Rashad Evans until at least March of 2010.

After UFC 103, White said that he spoke to Jackson on Thursday night in an attempt to figure out the timing of Jackson's film commitment, and to determine when he'd be in fighting shape again.

Vitor Belfort's KO Win Could Vault Him to Title Match With Anderson Silva

Rich FranklinDALLAS – While Rich Franklin will likely never say it, he didn't want a fight in September, let alone one against Vitor Belfort. Franklin would have preferred some time off, but the need for a headliner for UFC 103 pushed him into making the decision to participate.

Franklin may be a company man, but that loyalty – along with Belfort's considerable skills – cost Franklin, as Belfort returned to the UFC with a shocking first-round TKO over the ex-UFC middleweight champion in front of 17,428 at the American Airlines Center.
