Kobe Bryant and Wife Sued by Maid

Kobe Bryant and his wife, Vanessa, are being sued by their maid Maria Jimenez in what is only the second most ridiculous sounding lawsuit that an NBA player has been hit with this season (behind Eddy Curry, obviously).

Jimenez is suing the Bryants for some pretty unseemly stuff, with the premise, as reported by TMZ, being that she was treated poorly. And by "poorly" I mean "like f*****g s**t." No, seriously -- that's what Jimenez is saying she was called.

ESPN Is OK with Laura Lane's Personal Blog, but 'Don't Bother Looking for It, It's Long Gone'

ESPN the Magazine is taking a decidedly different approach to this whole Laura Lane-Vanessa Bryant potty-mouthed semi-soap opera than some people probably thought they would. The Worldwide Leader is actually embracing Ms. Lane's decision to write about her encounter with Ms. Bryant on her personal blog.

This is a good thing. Corporations tend to freak out when people with any insider knowledge discuss the company. (As a freelancer, Lane's not really an insider. But again, corporations often shoot first and question later in these cases.)

So, credit to the ESPN powers that be who kept their cool here. But the company gets significantly less credit for the vague and somewhat hypocritical manner in which it lays the blame in this instance. The root of the problem: They still don't seem to really understand how blogs work.

Kobe Bryant's Wife Allegedly Has a Foul Mouth

Litigation and obscenity usually go hand-in-hand, especially when you're a celebrity (Kobe Bryant) who may have been defamed by a website looking for publicity.

The obscenity usually happens in back rooms and typically better off, for publicity reasons, not making its way to the many locales of celebrity spotlight. One of those places would not be: in front of children, at a Lakers game, to a reporter.

From Laura Lane's personal blog. (Censoring mine.)
Last night, I got cussed out by Vanessa Bryant. Seriously. At the Lakers game. In front of her kids. In front of the Lakers locker room. It was awesome. She is mad about an article I wrote where I mentioned her. That means one of two things - she either reads the ESPN blog or she has herself on Google alerts. Both are fantastic.

So as I'm walking out of the Lakers locker room after some post-game interviews with the players, I pass Vanessa, who is sitting outside the locker room as usual with her two girls.

"Laura!" she screams (yes, she apparently knows my name). "F--- you! You f---ing b----!"
The rest of the "conversation", according to Lane (who has the best journalism name of all time), involves more F-bombs and assorted accusations of journalistic integrity.

Lane claims Bryant was upset about a story that ran in ESPN the mag. I would probably, however, agree with Lane in the assessment that Bryant's wife is more upset over the Dirty's allegations that Kobe slept with an 18 year old Laker girl. Typically that, moreso than a story about gameday fashion, is what tends to anger athlete's wives.
