Shane McMahon Resigns From WWE

Shane McMahonShane McMahon, son of WWE CEO Vince McMahon and himself the company's executive vice president of global media, has resigned from WWE effective Jan. 1, 2010.

McMahon, who helped launch the company into new international markets and headed its publications division, announced the move via a company press release.

While the direction of his future business career is uncertain, the world of mixed martial arts could be a possible landing spot.

WWE CEO Linda McMahon to Run for Senate in CT

Vince McMahon's official title is Chairman of the Board of World Wrestling Entertainment. And his wife, Linda, is currently WWE's CEO. But she's got her sights set on something more than overseeing an operation that has made millions on the backs of a bunch of sweaty dudes running around in their underpants.

Via The Fix, Mrs. McMahon, Republican, "will formally enter the Connecticut Senate race today, adding a celebrity element to a contest that promises to be among the most competitive in the country."

Cody Rhodes No Chip Off the Old Block

Cody RhodesOn the surface, WWE's Cody Rhodes doesn't remind you of his father, the legendary Dusty Rhodes, and that's a good thing. With interests ranging from video games to superheroes, Cody seems to connect with a young generation of viewers, not just the tradition or "Legacy" in which he follows.

FanHouse recently spoke with the 24-year-old about THQ's WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2010 game, the honor of wrestling at SummerSlam, and his in-depth thoughts on the professional wrestling industry. Read our complete interview after the jump.

Week In Review: Shaq Back to School

Shaquille O'Neal, Vince McMahon, Michael Vick
I don't know about you, but my heart can't take another week like the last one. It had enough suspense to qualify as an Alfred Hitchcock movie.

The only thing missing was the shower scene where a psycho Bud Selig pulls back the curtain and finds Jose Canseco injecting steroids into Alex Rodriguez's rear end. Which brings us to one of the week's riveting questions:

No Lessons Learned in Game 1, Just Good Basketball

Cherry Picking recaps the previous day's NBA Playoff action.

Carmelo Anthony and Kobe BryantAfter a grueling, physical seven-game series with the Rockets, there was some worry the Lakers might come out flat against the Nuggets (even if history suggested otherwise). And for the first 10 minutes, that's what happened as the Nuggets jumped out to a surprising 27-14 lead. All told, Carmelo Anthony finished with an impressive 16 points in the opening quarter.

Not to be shown up on their home floor, the Lakers spent the second quarter chipping away at Denver's lead, eventually going into halftime with a slim two-point lead of their own. Things continued to go back and forth in the second half until finally Kobe Bryant took over, scoring 18 of his 40 points in the fourth en route to a 105-103 victory.

The only lesson here, though, is that it's better to be a closer late than a front-runner early -- which we already knew. Nothing else should be taken from this game.

RoundCast: Conference Finals Preview

Bloggers knee-jerking on the phone + roundtable style = RoundCast.

Just. One. Day. Left ... Until the conference finals. Well, actually, just a few hours unless you're a total freakshow who hawks RoundCasts. In which case, forget I said "freakshow" and insert "loyal listener who I love."

Whatever, it's time for the Nuggets and Lakers and Cavs and Magic to square off for two spots in the NBA Finals. Gary Washburn, Nate Jones, Matt Moore, Matt Watson and I debate who will end up there, naturally. We also touch on Vince McMahon's absurdity and at one point, allow the Nuggets bandwagon to roll on unimpeded, give potentially too much credit to both Orlando and a certain star in Cleveland, and Watson may or may not attempt to point out that Carmelo Anthony is better than LeBron James.

Nuggets, WWE Are Double-Booked

Vince McMahonWWE chairman Vince McMahon wasn't pleased to see the Lakers win on Sunday, and it's not because he's a closet Houston Rockets fan. (Although, when you think about it, Ron Artest could have a nice post-NBA career on the professional wrestling circuit ...)

Because the No. 1 seeded Lakers advanced to the conference finals, the No. 2 seeded Nuggets are now scheduled to host Game 4 on Monday, May 25 ... the same date the WWE reserved at the Pepsi Center for a televised Monday Night Raw episode. Had the fifth-seeded Rockets won, the Nuggets would be on the road that date.

"Even though the Denver Nuggets had a strong team this year and were projected to make the playoffs," McMahon said in a statement, "obviously Nuggets and Pepsi Center owner Stan Kroenke did not have enough faith in his own team to hold the May 25th date for a potential playoff game."

Benoit's Doctor Sentenced to 10 Years

Back in 2007, WWE superstar Chris Benoit murdered his wife and son before taking his own life. In the aftermath, many have blamed excessive steroid abuse by Benoit as having an integral role, despite the fact that it couldn't really be proven that was the cause.

Regardless, the fact that Benoit's Doctor had prescribed him and many others illegal steroids has landed said Doctor in hot water. That's putting it mildly, actually. Dr. Phil Astin, 54, pleaded guilty to 175 counts -- including distribution of illegal drugs to his clients. In return, he was sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Torrie Wilson, Former WWE Diva, Readies For Reality TV Jungle

After eight grueling years in the professional wrestling business, Torrie Wilson was forced to end her career after undergoing back surgery last June. It was a small, but serious, price to pay for one of the most popular World Wrestling Entertainment Divas of all time.

Vince McMahon: UFC Has Hurt Boxing, Not WWE

Boxing, professional wrestling and mixed martial arts are similar businesses in the sense that all three rely on pay-per-view television for a large portion of their overall revenue. But does that make them competitors?

WWE chairman Vince McMahon says boxing and MMA are competitors with each other, but that neither one takes pay-per-view revenue away from the WWE. In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter in advance of WrestleMania XXV, McMahon talked about the UFC.
