Fantasy Football Cut-N-Go: When Will Michael Crabtree Suit Up?

Michael CrabtreeCut-N-Go is Fantasy Football FanHouse's weekday roundup of the NFL news with fantasy football impact.

Early on Wednesday morning the San Francisco 49ers and Michael Crabtree, their first-round draft pick, came to an agreement -- ending a long holdout. Financial details haven't been disclosed, and quite honestly aren't relevant to the fantasy football GM. The important question -- when will Crabtree be ready to play?

Matt Maiocco of The Press-Democrat says that it may be a few weeks before Crabtree gets onto the field.
The 49ers are expecting a two-week roster exemption, thus buying them some time before they are required to release a player to create a spot on the team's 53-man roster.
This will allow Crabtree to practice with the team -- something he's supposed to start doing today -- while the team decides who they'll cut once they activate the receiver.

Funny, You'd Think Eight Combined Wins Would Make for a Good Football Game

There wasn't any beer on sale at the Meadowlands during today's overtime Jets win. That meant 65 minutes of the Herman Edwards Bowl had to be witnessed stone cold sober by the hardy souls who braved a rainy, miserable day in New York just to watch their team try to win a meaningless game.

That's just not right. It took me a fifth of scotch, two 40s of OE and a polo mallet just to make it to halftime. By the time Mike Nugent made two field goals, one was negated by penalty, to win the game 13-10 in the extra period I was on a morphine drip, scraping every drop of Sterno out of a can and grinding up bumblebees to snort.

God knows I wasn't playing this one naked. There were 18 punts, 35 incomplete passes, 13 penalties and the teams combined to convert 6-of-32 third downs. There weren't even any turnovers to make things interesting, just inept offenses running a few plays before sending a guy in to punt. That 18 number doesn't even include a roughing the kicker penalty or Jon McGraw's fake of a K.C. punt. That means there were 20 times teams were in a punt formation. Not that I was counting or anything.

Are the Jets Interested in Reche Caldwell?

Although it's pure speculation at the moment, John Tomase of the Boston Herald had an interesting thought. Could recently released wide receiver Reche Caldwell eventually land in New York, playing for the Jets?

"He just wants to get into a situation like the one he was in last year," Mitch Frankel, Caldwell's agent said. "He wants a chance to compete for a championship, whether that's in California, New York, or the middle of the country."
While the Jets have very solid depth at wide receiver, there is no such thing as too much talent. Caldwell, a former second-round draft pick, was the Patriots leading receiver last year and has shown the ability to step-up when called upon.

And it's not like Caldwell will be looking to be the number one guy. It's clear that he just wants to fit in somewhere and help a team win a championship.

It wouldn't be a half bad idea for the Jets to bring him in and have him replace Wallace Wright, one of the teams six active wide receivers.

Jets Do The Tar Heel Shuffle

Former North Carolina wide receiver Wallace WrightThe New York Jets are having a tough time deciding on their favorite Tar Heel.

The Jets waived rookie free agent wide receiver Wallace Wright out of UNC (pictured) Tuesday and signed another former Tar Heel, tight end Zach Hilton.

Hilton had been surprisingly cut by the New Orleans Saints earlier in the day and was one of their top receivers last year.

Other comings and goings of North Carolina alumni in the NFL ranks include former linebacker Sedrick Hodge who was released by Miami, quarterback Matt Baker who was signed to the Dallas Cowboys' practice squad, and defensive lineman Chase Page who was signed to the Chargers' practice squad.
