Jaguars' New Uniforms Announced

The Jacksonville Jaguars showcased their new uniforms live (via the interwebz!) Wednesday. And it would appear, fashion aside, that Wayne Weaver and the powers-that-be in north Florida are highly interested in appealing to a fanbase that is logically disappointed by the team's performance last year. Weaver spoke of finding an "identity" with these uniforms, and based on the write-up from Vic Ketchman, Sr. News Editor at Jaguars.com, several of the changes in store for the new uniforms were based on fan reaction.

Fred Taylor Apologizes to Jags for Nightclub Incident, Will Play Nice With 5-Oh Now

Fred Taylor got in trouble. That much we know now; at the time we were heavily confused as to whether he was actually arrested or whether he was handed a pink ticket with "Disorderly Conduct" written all over it.

Turns out it was the latter. The nice thing is that Taylor is ready and willing to admit his mistake, by apologizing to the team and to the Weaver family as well.
Taylor addressed the team Monday, and said he cursed at two policemen who were searching his car with a dog outside of a nightclub. He received a disorderly conduct citation.

Taylor said he's learned to use only four words in talking to the police in any similar situation in the future: "Yes, sir" and "no, sir."

"I'll take this and learn from it. I'm humbled by it. Hindsight is 20-20. How about a "yes, sir' or "no, sir' next time?" he said.

Coach Jack Del Rio said, "I asked him to speak with the guys to gain some experience from the situation. I think it's a great reminder of the need to be respectful with authority."
Generally speaking, being polite to police officers at all times is a smart thing. So it's nice that Taylor learned that lesson (Sheesh. Only took him how long? I figured that out at 14. Quickly.) There were some later comments by Taylor that indicated he was provoked by the policemen, and frankly, that's not surprising.

Jaguars Owner Wayne Weaver Denies Sale

Well, that was quick.

A day after a story in the Philadelphia Daily News said the Jacksonville Jaguars are for sale, owner Wayne Weaver insisted that they aren't. From the team's official web site:

"I'm frustrated. People take things out of context," Weaver said, his voice choked with emotion. "This team is not going to California. This team is the Jacksonville Jaguars. I don't know how I can do anything more to reaffirm my commitment. I want our fans to get as excited as I am.

"Everybody wants me to speculate on the future. I'm not going to speculate on the future. At some point, maybe, I would sell the team, but not now. Whatever happens in the future, I can assure you of one thing: The Jacksonville Jaguars are going to be the Jacksonville Jaguars."

So, some day, maybe, the Jaguars are going to be sold. But right now, they're Weaver's team, and he says he's staying put.

Jacksonville Jaguars for Sale?

The Philadelphia Daily News is reporting that the Jacksonville Jaguars are for sale, and that owner Wayne Weaver has negotiated with billionaire C. Dean Metropoulos to sell the team.

Metropoulos, who sold Pinnacle Foods last year for more than $2 billion, denied it:
"I must tell you I haven't had any such discussions," he said. "I wouldn't know how to give you any credibility to that because I don't know anything about it."
But the Daily News reported that "several credible league sources" said Metropoulos is lying. This sale does not appear to be as close as the potential sale of the Steelers, but it's worth keeping an eye on.

One thing to keep in mind: Because of the size of the market and the constant problems selling out the stadium, the Jaguars aren't worth a lot (relatively) in Jacksonville -- but if an owner believes he can move the team to Los Angeles, all of a sudden they're a gold mine.
